I do have to disagree on this, good bacon smells alright, tastes great. Not the only food out there that tastes great though, and I don't think it's a great loss if someone chooses to not eat it. (also amusingly most muslims I know dislike the smell.)

how are you cooking it, and to what level? the ones I make never end up tasting dry.

water is super chill (but not so common out of bottle in most of eu) ice tea, fizzy drinks, alcohol are definitely not ideal but more common to drink outside and easier to clean milk drinks and similar creamy drinks are more likely to be consumed indoors and more likely to stain
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
i'm not opposed to this change fwiw, I just think maybe stuff that has a large risk of dripping and staining could've been granted an exception.

you not knowing does not mean it does not happen, we have a lot more heat related deaths in europe than in the US. I do agree that they look somewhat ugly but then we can just spec into making them stick out less/blend in more. I've never seen anyone trying to color match it to the building for ex.

was actually p surprised that ovpay does not do this
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
tfl had this problem, now they put a charge on your card that they adjust later so even if you cancel the card they can at least get £x out of you. depending on card issuer (well, BIN) reputation the amount varies. my mastercard was iirc £1, my maestro was iirc £20. revolut is likely high too.
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent

I would consider daily driving this otherwise and the rest of specs (new cam, 12gb ram, 256gb storage, usbc) are more aligned with a daily driver than an odd curiosity so yea I think of it less as complaining and moreso as dreaming though
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
p good specs but a mtk and 4g only? heck
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
(yeah it's technically a different card on gpay as they issue a virtual number that maps to the same card, but if bank marks tfl as likely fraud on one card I expect them to mark it as likely fraud account-wide)
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
I had a similar but different issue in london too, there it wasn't google pay rejecting things but instead at some point my bank stopped letting me ride tfl with my google pay card, rejecting payments. The physical card outside google pay kept working tho, which was the weird part.

ave (@ave.zone) reply parent

See "list of known payment devices" here dangerousthings.com/product/conv..., there are more out there tho. printables is throwing HTTP 500 rn, try searching "22mm card" etc once it's up. I expanded the design there to make the holding bits larger so it won't fall off.

I can share links to other places that provide sim sized payment cards and a link to the 3d model if interested
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
consider 3d printing an attachment for a SIM-sized payment card (which I have as a prepaid card from vimpay) for your wristband. I can pay with my current pebble that way.

have you heard of PIX? itch should use PIX. just have all your users go to the brazilian consulate to get a CPF (tax ID). then they can pay with PIX. that solves the problem.

unionpay does also have foreign issuers, but they're far and few in between, often issued as business cards for companies that do a lot of business with china and as such send staff to china often enough to warrant getting a unionpay card

Indie games are a massive industry, itch is not niche. Many creators rely on their itch income and will stay even if itch is forced to take down adult content. However, if itch stopped taking mc/visa, they'd then look for other places to sell their game as their revenues would drop a lot.
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
Best of both worlds would be if itch could do something like "We take visa/mc/amex/paypal for regular games, and only ethereum for adult-only games", but I suspect payment processor policies may reject that nevertheless.
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
for fun I'll try getting a CPF and pix access though, but this is definitely not a process for the masses
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
unionpay is almost impossible to get in most countries (so not really different to pix). amex is an option that's easier to get than unionpay, it's still not global. bitcoin is alright but ethereum is more environmental and monero is more private but itch will never be big unless they take visa/mc
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
In both, in some regions with high tourism have some stores that went through the bureaucracy to set up receiving pix for payments. That's not very much "France and portugal are using it". That's like a store that takes US dollars (at bad rates) because that way they get more tourists.
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
oh apparently recargapay requires a brazilian phone number also, and pmuch all other banks require ID numbers not available to nonresidents (RG / CNH / RNE) to sign up :/ I think it's time people stopped suggesting pix as a viable option for itch to add for global payments.
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
I'm not convinced this is a good option at all for people outside brazil :/
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
www.reddit.com/r/Brazil/com... not mentioned in here, but: - wise does not do it anymore - c6 no longer allows foreigners - rendimento works (needs cpf) but has high fees - recargapay works (needs cpf) and to get a CPF you need to fill a form, send your passport scan and visit the consulate :D
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
supporting new payment mechanisms is quite a lot of overhead for a site like itch tbh. sorry to hear that it's the best you've got though, I guess it's nice that at least some places accept it. wish it was easier to anyone to be not unbanked.
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
which brazilian banks accept overseas retail customers without requiring signing up in person?
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
lol nah. US gift cards only, and the fees they charge seem to vary, but numbers I've found online are 17%, 20%, 60%, 120% (paid by customer, so for $40 you may need to pay $96 in gift cards for example). for context itch was probably paying 1-3% to stripe.
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
pix is only available to customers in brazil. it's not a solution.
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
And as a mainstream platform, you only are mainstream if you accept mainstream payment options. Steam would never grow as big as it did if it only took bank transfers, cash in an envelope or crypto. So you cannot really blame them. Go small and niche if you want small and niche payment options.
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
Of course, the reason why steam and itch are having issues is not high chargeback rates, but instead reactionary groups campaigning. The solution for itch and steam may as such be easier than one of these providers. Porn-aimed payment processors are unlikely to ever get as cheap as regular ones tho.
ave (@ave.zone) reply parent
well no, main issue *used* to be that porn gets high chargeback rates, which have costly overhead and lead to revocation of merchant license if they happen often. providers targeting porn tend to as such offer middlemen merchants open to losing their license, which always adds overhead.
