This is worth reading. Basically every member of his 2016 Cabinet confirmed it. To quote Rex Tillerson: ‘He’s a fucking moron’.

Lots of reasons for doom, but Putin has already lost this particular war. His objective was to pull Ukraine back into the renewed Russian empire. He has permanently driven Ukraine away from Moscow and galvanised Europe to coalesce as an anti-Moscow pole. This is true whatever happens to end the war.

And I know it’s a minor thing but it’s important - land doesn’t fight. Russia is 3.5- 4x the population and likely has 4x the casualties - even by Trump’s own bullshit maths - so it’s not clear to me Russia has an endless pipeline of meat to throw into the grinder.

I used to think Ukraine didn’t fit in NATO - it was as likely to side with Russia in a conflict, and were we ever really going to put NATO boots on the ground in Ukraine? That was was probably right pre Orange revolution, but now - they would be such an addition to NATO and strengthen it massively.

This is the question. When Putin demands Ukraine surrender the eastern side of the Dniepr + Odessa? Does that trigger more US support for Ukraine, or does Trump wash his hands of it?
BGB (@bbolger.bsky.social) reply parent
And if the rumour that it requires spending $100b on US weapons, is correct, I would not bother with the US at all, and spend that cash developing Euro defence industries so Europe is self reliant, rather than have weapons which require US consent for launch codes and tech support.

The reason, Mr Trump, is the Russian soldiers were attacking Ukraine, and the Ukrainians were defending their homeland.
BGB (@bbolger.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump needs to be very aware that if he forces Ukraine to hand over land, and Russia takes it, re-arms and comes back for more, his name will be forever be associated with being the 21st century’s Chamberlain.

Why spend $800b pa if you won’t use it even in this situation? And this applies to Biden as well. I don’t get it.
BGB (@bbolger.bsky.social)
USA could give Ukraine $100b (maybe $200b) worth of decent weapons, and it won’t make a dent in the US armoury that has an $800b per annum budget. Defeating Russia in Ukraine 🇺🇦 would allow the US to halve their defence spending. Give $200b already spent, save $400b new spend every year.
BGB (@bbolger.bsky.social)

Oh I don’t think he’d like a video of an obese 68 yr old Trump in 2012 shagging a pretty girl who could be anything from 25 to 15. It would be 🤮🤮🤮🤮 regardless of how legal it was, and the ridicule would be hard for a narcissist who sees himself as very desirable to the ladies to take.
BGB (@bbolger.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah but it’s really like USA invading Canada (or UK invading Scotland). The closeness is because of the history and links between the people, and I don’t see how that would translate into ‘we need to exterminate them if they want to leave NAFTA and join the EU’

It doesn't need to be anything more than ordinary Moscow tourist behaviour - sex with a pretty hooker. The guy who posts pictures of himself as Superman is not going to want us to see a grainy video of his obese ass humping a nice young woman. That's all it needs to be. And IMO likely exists.
BGB (@bbolger.bsky.social) reply parent
Is that enough to explain his behaviour? Yeah I think a grainy video of a very fat Trump shagging a young woman of indeterminate age would be hard for him to shrug off. 🤮🤮 And remember - he challenges, pushes, insults everyone. But Putin. He’s never said a bad word. Literally. 3/3.
BGB (@bbolger.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump famously shags anyone that’s good looking, no questions asked, and in Moscow? Yeah absolutely he played around. The only reason the Russians wouldn’t have a tape is if they couldn’t be bothered given at that time he was a poor, self obsessed has-been playing a parody of himself on TV. 2/n
BGB (@bbolger.bsky.social) reply parent
I think this ‘daddy complex’ is a much bigger stretch than Russia simply has a tape of him shagging a hooker (an obese 68yr old with young woman is not going to be flattering). I’ve spent plenty of time as a banker in Moscow and one of its charms is the swathes of ‘glamorous’ women. 1/n
