So, the woman whom Giuliani was helping was on the southbound side of Interstate 93. But the car in which he was injured was on the northbound side. And this all happened in the dark of night. www.concordmonitor.com/2025/08/31/r... www.nytimes.com/2025/08/31/u...

image Mr. Giuliani was in a Ford Bronco being driven by his adviser Theodore Goodman on Interstate 93 near Manchester, N.H., at around 10 p.m., the police said in a statement. Mr. Ragusa said their car was flagged down by a woman who was the victim of domestic violence and they stopped to help. The police noted the domestic violence incident but did not address whether Mr. Giuliani was assisting the victim. Mr. Giuliani called 911 and waited until help arrived, then departed, Mr. Ragusa said. The police said Mr. Giuliani's vehicle was northbound on the highway, on the opposite side of the road from where the domestic violence incident was reported, when it was rear-ended by a Honda HR-V driven by Lauren Kemp, 19, of Concord, N.H. Both vehicles hit the median and were heavily damaged, the police said. Mr. Ragusa said the car that hit Mr. Giuliani's was traveling at high speed.

Randomly came across this 1970 Roger Ebert column about a young, undiscovered John Prine. Talent meets talent. www.rogerebert.com/balder-and-d...

He appears on stage with such modesty he almost seems to be backing into the spotlight. He sings rather quietly, and his guitar work is good, but he doesn't show ff. He starts slow. But after a song or two, even the drunks in the room begin to listen to his lyrics. And then he has you.

Despite that appellate court’s rejection, Trump’s tariffs will likely be with us for many more months— likely til next spring, at least. Excellent analysis via @jessbravin.bsky.social www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

A final decision still could be many months away. Because the administration still can collect tariffs for now, the White House faces no real urgency to move faster than the mid-October deadline to file an appeal with the Supreme Court. It could be December or January before the court agrees to take up the case, which would likely put oral arguments in the winter or early spring. A decision likely would be weeks or months after that.

Look at these positions he’s taken

Among the controversial positions Ensign has taken on behalf of the administration: He has argued that after the government mistakenly sends someone to a foreign prison, it cannot be required to correct its mistake. He has claimed that if a judge verbally orders the government to do something, the government does not have to do it. He has dismissed a judge's effort to enforce a court order as an unlawful intrusion into the president's authority. A U.S. district judge called his assertions

Dr. Monarez and Mr. Kennedy were at odds over vaccine policy, according to an administration official who is familiar with the events. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, said Mr. Kennedy summoned Dr. Monarez to his office on Monday and demanded that she resign. When she refused, Mr. Kennedy demanded that she remove the agency’s top leadership by the end of the week. Dr. Monarez then called Senator Bill Cassidy, the Republican chairman of the Senate health committee, who in turn called Mr. Kennedy, according to the official. Mr. Kennedy, furious, summoned Dr. Monarez to a second meeting on Tuesday and accused her of “being a leaker,” according to the official, and told her she would be fired.

Update: At least three other high-ranking officials in CDC have also resigned. “I am not able to serve in this role any longer because of the ongoing weaponization of public health,” one of the officials said in a note to staff.

An assault on a Minneapolis church with "at least 20 victims." And what remedy will we hear? Fortified stained glass? www.startribune.com/minneapolis-...

An Annunciation parent who was sitting in the back pew at the 8:15 a.m. Mass said students were packed into the pews when a shooter opened fire outside the building with some kind of semiautomatic weapon. “He just pepper-sprayed through the stained-glass windows into the building, 50 to 100 shots,” said the parent, who did not want his name used. “He killed two kids.” “This is terrible,” he said. ”This is evil. I don’t know how you defend against this.” — Reid Forgrave

Decimate is a word that often raises hackles, at least those belonging to a small but committed group of logophiles who feel that it is commonly misused. The issue that they have with the decline and fall of the word decimate is that once upon a time in ancient Rome it had a very singular meaning: “to select by lot and kill every tenth man of a military unit.” However, many words in English descended from Latin have changed and/or expanded their meanings in their travels. For example, we no longer think of sinister as meaning “on the left side,” and delicious can describe things both tasty and delightful. Was the “to kill every tenth man” meaning the original use of decimate in English? Yes, but not by much. It took only a few decades for decimate to acquire its broader, familiar meaning of “to severely damage or destroy,” which has been employed steadily since the 17th century.

“It looks like John back in 2019 was charged with a DUI, but ultimately resolved his case in 2020 with an impaired driver [charge],” Crayk said. “He has successfully completed all of his probation, completed treatment classes, everything he was ordered to do … everything was completed.” Shin had his driver’s license reinstated and was able to drive on Utah roads again with insurance.
