So AI is terrible, yes, but buried in this piece is also the idea that before AI High school students were feverishly working until midnight on assignments. This creates an expectation that workers are to work outside of work, and this too is toxic.

I learned about aspects ratios when I was like 10 years old and got the widescreen VHS box set of Star Trek movies I-VI. Since then, I’ve hated viewing content in the wrong aspect ratio. I don’t know how anyone can play games stretched like that. It’s horrific.
Do the horrific people that stretch 4:3 games still do it when they have ultrawide monitors

This was my first VT game, but I used to be a Baylor fan, so I don’t know what to make of this game.

I recently watched "Always," which is a remake of this film with Richard Dreyfus. I haven't even seen the original, but I think this is probably the better film.

Wandering around campus today at the engineering building and there were several printed signs that used the Chicago font and it made my day.

I like how the crosswalk is stained. In college, we chalked our fraternity letters in front of a major hall on campus (I’m talking 20 ft tall letters). I learned that you have to rub the chalk into the concrete. Do that and it will stay for weeks and they’ll have a hell of a time rinsing it off.

I read about this painting in in @tyseidule.bsky.social ‘s book Robert E Lee and me. It’s based on a photo of Lee after surrendering at Appomattox. The man in the background isn’t a slave. He’s free. It’s Lee in defeat. Sidney Dickinson is the artist and the commissioners at West Point were pissed.
I don’t necessarily think it should be put back up, but it’s interesting in any case.
…the painting is based on a photo of Lee after surrendering at Appomattox. The artist basically painted it as a big F you to lost cause myth and West Point was furious when they saw it. It’s Lee defeated. That man in the background is no longer a slave. He is emancipated.
I have read about this painting in the excellent book “Robert E Lee and Me” by @tyseidule.bsky.social about the lost cause myth. It was commissioned to show Lee “at the height of his glory”. The artist that painted it, Sidney Dickinson, interpreted that as when Lee surrendered…(1/2)
