No one is about the law - except Trump! And the guardians of the law, the Supreme Court did this. During Trump's first term, people hoped the "guard rails" would hold. The Supreme Court took care of this - by removing them.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear God, Your posts and the responses to your posts have convinced me that America is doomed. Trump and his supporters are merrily marching to our doom and the opposition is too fragmented and enjoying the circular firing squad too much to stop it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoWt...
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Typos happen, but your point is dead-on. I can't tell you the sadness I feel that we failed such an easy test. But we continue the circular firing squad looking for who is to blame. I posted this somewhere before, but again -
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
It's all to sad. And we can never go back. Trump has broken the trust with our allies and now has broken the trust the American people have with our government. And we can never go back.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, and we should be calling out the journalists who write these articles.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Walt Kelly summed it up many years ago.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree, we are stoopid. That is the common denominator. That and lazy, preferring the easy and simple answers. And it's not rightwing medias' fault. They exist because so many Americans want it and support it.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, Trump needs help, but so does the U.S. which reelected him. What is wrong with us?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, "A sane country would be moving toward impeachment and removal right now," but the U.S. is not a sane country and we knew this when we reelected Trump.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
NO!
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Or as the Dalai Lama said, “If there is no solution to the problem then don't waste time worrying about it. If there is a solution to the problem then don't waste time worrying about it.”
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Great analysis. But what's the counter?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
where Trump is in the White House and controls the military (which he has shown he’s willing to use domestically), where Trump Republicans control Congress, and where the Supreme Court bends to his will - the result will not be some utopia, but to something far worse than what we have now.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump’s erratic behavior and terrible policies may lead to the economy crashing. You seem to want that to happen and to accelerate the process. But if the US economy crashes, the world economy crashes, making the likelihood of civil unrest all but inevitable. In that situation . . .
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
How will the US economy crashing solve anything? It won't remove Trump from office, it won't undo the terrible policies, and the billionaires will still be billionaires and won't suffer - while most Americans (and the world) will greatly suffer. It's not a solution.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
And do what exactly?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
"There are certainly many darker ways this can play out." And I thought I was pessimistic. As Leonard Cohen sang, "You want it darker, we kill the flame."
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
"And one has to hope this will lead to an understanding that neither side is going to conquer the other, and neither side will want to live under that absence of rules when it’s not in power." So the only "hope" is that we don't destroy ourselves before we mutually surrender.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
"What you need is for Blue State America to use political power as ruthlessly and as maximally as Red State America does." If this is anywhere near an accurate assessment of the state of affairs (and I think it is), it is God-awful.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
If he was a Hamas terrorist at war with Israel, then it wasn’t an assassination.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
What is propaganda? The selfie he took or his post? And I noted that those weren’t proof, but raised questions and asked about evidence. If he was a Hamas terrorist at war with Israel, then it wasn’t murder.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, but not Homo sapiens. So this seems to be about the definition of "human beings" and whether that refers to only Homo sapiens or all hominids.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
I didn't, but I had a general understanding that humans weren't around for millions of years and I checked reliable sources (e.g. - The Smithsonian). I rarely rely solely on my memory for facts, especially numbers, that are easily checked.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
p.s: Best estimate is that Homo Sapiens have been around for 300,000 years, not millions. A mere flash in the universe.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Citizen, I don't know your age, but as a grumpy old man I'd suggest you wait a bit before making such a declaration. As the financial people say, "past performance is not indicative of future results."

“Everything is going to become unimaginably worse, and never get better again.” ~ Kurt Vonnegut
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Did Israel provide documents or other evidence that Anas Al-Sharif was a member of Hamas and if so, what was it? I've seen a Telegram message from him praising the Oct. 7th attack even while it was ongoing and selfies of him with Hamas leadership. While not proof, it does raise questions.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
So the question isn't would he sell out Ukraine, the question is the price - and that's what's sad.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
"this"?! Does God need an editor?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Some things, like one's virginity, you can't get back. Sadly, America has lost the trust of our (former) allies and of the American people in our institutions. Biden and his administration were supposed to restore our status. He did what he could while he could, but then we reelected a sick person.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
It's no wonder Trump has been successful at politics - it's all a con game and Ds & Rs are competing cons.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
The strategy is simple: personalize Trump, and elevate Democratic candidates as defenders of the American brand.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
“The American brand values equality for all persons, as stated in our Declaration of Independence. Because Democrats hold that value, we propose laws to protect the voting rights of all citizens. By protecting voting rights, we turn the American value of equality into reality.”
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Every message should start with a clear American value. Only then should it present policy — and every policy must end by tying back to that value. For example:
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
This should be easy — Trump will help. It won’t win over die-hard Trump supporters, but it can sway independents uneasy with an imperial presidency. At the same time, Democrats must embrace “the American brand” — a brand rooted not in showy patriotism, but in enduring American values.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social)
The American Brand The Democrats need a brand — a brand to counter the Trump brand. And that’s the key: make the election about the American brand versus the Trump brand. Democrats must actively label everything Trump says and does as part of “the Trump brand.”
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
So, does, “In addition, the Government is in the process of providing notice to any other individuals identified in the transcripts.” mean that Trump will be officially notified by the DOJ that his name is in the grand jury records?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Actually this is not surprising. Rs tend to like their party while Ds tend to be more critical of their party. See posts below as evidence.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Whatever we would call Putin's Russia is what we should call Trump's America.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Clearly that's going to happen and probably at the end of Trumps's term while he's pardoning his family, his administration, and his associates. It was understandable why Biden did it, but now it's a precedent and Trump will point to Biden pardons to excuse his.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
But Obama' birth certificate?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
It is f*cked, but Texas Rs already gerrymandered congressional districts, so could they really do any more damage?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Probably the same person who planted the fake news item of Obama's birth in Hawaii.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
" Now that we've determined that you're a prostitute, the only thing left to discuss is your price."
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Just for laughs. I read the headline entirely wrong. I thought Roberts was saying he manages the judiciary, he doesn't manage the President. But he is supposed to keep the President and administration from breaking the Constitution and the laws - and he doesn't seem to be doing that either.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
This (and dozens of other administration actions) and the fact that we can no longer trust the DOJ makes me sad for our country. But it fits. Other nations can no longer trust the US and neither can its citizens.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
It seems rather clear: Maxwell remembers everything (maybe even more than everything) about everyone, including Clinton, Gates, Prince Andrew, etc. - except Trump in exchange for a pardon.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Or, having seen what happened to Epstein, she forgets all about Trump, but remembers Clinton, Gates, Andrew, etc. and gets pardoned.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear God, Boasting?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear God, Please stop. Not everyone who doesn't hold your opinions (I'm not talking values.) is a "stupid sack of shit". It's unbecoming for you. p.s: You're older, way older, than they are. Shall we stop listening to you?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Why? If it was because of Giller Prize having Scotiabank as a sponsor, my understanding is that they ended that relationship months ago. So why?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
If so, then the defendants can request a competency hearing of the plaintiff. Please let it be so.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Perhaps it’s just not-so-smart people reacting, not to facts (facts have lost meaning to Trump and gang), but to what they consume on tv news & social media. They are flailing because they are stupid and have guilty consciences.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, but they would do it anyway.

This happened some years ago when a business colleague told me his young daughter used a landline and didn't know what a busy signal was. Today I'd bet that young people wouldn't know how to use a rotary phone. (And if you don't know what a rotary phone is, you probably couldn't use it.)
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Obama ridiculed him, so he ran for President. He was called a TACO, so he's instituting the tariffs. I think there's a pattern here.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
No, you didn't. In fact your dismissal was why I read it. And what I read is that people are complicated, even "straight, cis, white men".
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Maybe someone could start a GoFundMe campaign. We need to know Wolff's price.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
What "context" is Wolff waiting for?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear God, While you are perfect, you didn't create a perfect world with perfect humans - as you said looking at us and the world you created, "It was very good." So please show compassion and mercy as you did for Abraham when he argued with you to spare a city if it contained only 10 good people.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear God, Being stupid is a normal human condition, so I hope it was for something more serious than that.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear God, You're God and I'm a lowly human, but I don't think what you "see" is going to happen.

If data and/or information is correct and true, does it make a difference who speaks it?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Mark, The top marginal tax rate today is 37%. The top marginal tax rate in 1970 was 72% (almost double). (It was 91% in 1960.) No doubt deductions are different and the tax law is different, but how do you figure that the effective tax rate is about the same as it is today?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear God, Congratulations on beating mere humans. But lately you seem to have lost your sense of humor. I hope you can find it again.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, maybe on paper "a vengeful Elon" could be a force for good, but I don't think exchanging a wannabe-king with one who can buy power is a good solution. And don't think you can change Musk any more than Trump.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
I hope you have that conversation and share your conclusion.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
As if things aren't bad enough, I don't want one person, Elon Mush, to decide who wins.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
We're screwed.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear God, Feeling sorry for yourself? Humans having been praying to you for peace for 1000s of years. Have you looked around?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Did you vote?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
If you didn't have a preferred candidate, what are you complaining about? Did you not vote?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, God forbid that anyone be happy.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
If only things were as simple as that. The Democratic voters who didn't vote or voted third party because [whatever] may have had something to do with our current plight. But sure, take the easy way out and blame the Democratic Party because it didn't nominate the candidate of your choice.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
It was all American's responsibility, not just one political party, but all of us, individually and collectively. We failed. And until we take responsibility for our failures, we won't be able to right things.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
WOW.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
The only power "we, the people" hold is our vote - and we voted Trump and the Republicans into office. Shame on us.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
No, this isn't on Garland. No, this isn't on Mitch McConnell. No, this isn't on any one person. This is on us (collectively). This is on those who voted for Trump and those who didn't vote. This is on those who either didn't see, didn't understand, or didn't care.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Marcy, I read you because you're smart, but feuding over an opinion about Garland (rightly or wrongly held) seems like time and energy misspent. I also doubt that Jennifer Taub's opinion on Garland had any measureable effect on the election. We are here because we (collectively) are stupid.

Dear God, Are you kidding?! As much as I despise Trump, he is not the antichrist. And as morally wrong as it is to build a prison in an alligator-infested swamp, it's not a concentration camp with mass exterminations and ovens. Please, God, we need you, above all others, to be real.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump has always been untrustworthy. Now, the United States has become untrustworthy.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear God, No, you make it stop.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
There is no "Yet." We can only pray there is an end.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear God, Are you asking about Democratic politicians or about the Democratic base (i.e., citizens) or both? And what can they do that would be effective in stopping the Republicans? Hint: Not much.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
His answer was more nuanced than the phrase, so I didn't ascribe bad intentions to him. I honestly don't know much about him as I'm on the West Coast and don't follow NYC politics. I have no expectations.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, of course. I think I tried to make the point that context and who hears the words matter.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
No, I said I didn't accuse Mamdani of lying or of being antisemitic. The phrase "globalize the Intifada" has connotations to Jews that are antisemitic; i.e., "kill the Jews". You don't have to agree or even understand, but for many Jews the word "Intifada" has come to mean that.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
No, what's deleted is a post where I mistakenly said (or implied, it's deleted so I don't recall exactly what I wrote) that Mamdani used the term "globalize the Intifada". That was an error and when it was pointed out to me, I deleted the post. I never said that Mamdani lied or that he hated Jews.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
But this is getting more tiresome. If we can't move on, then I'm done.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Are you really that stupid? I've never disclaimed that I said I had "listened closely". I said I erred, that he didn't use the term "globalize the Intifada", the questioner did. I made a mistake. But you accused me of saying that Mamdani lied, and I never said that.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Show me the post.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
What behavior are you referring to? I never said that Mamdani hates Jews. I never said that he's antisemitic.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Regardless of what you think or call me, you're still avoiding answering my questions. Or is it that you lied when you accused me of saying that Mamdani lied?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Why resort to name calling? Make your counterpoint about what the term "Intifada" means to Jews.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
I thought I had "listened closely", but obviously I made a mistake. It was not intentional. I acknowledged my error and deleted the post. But you have not answered my questions and this is getting tiresome.
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, I erred. You can continue to ask me, but I don't have anything more to say than I erred. It was not intentional. Accept it or not. Now, will you answer my questions: Where did I say that Mamdani lied? Where did I say he said something offensive or wrong?
C.Grossman (@cgrossman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, I linked to the Holocaust Museum statement, but it doesn't mention Mamdani. It's a statement about the use of the word "Intifada". Where did I say Mamdani lied? And again, I already acknowledged my error and deleted the post. So, where did I say Mamdani said something offensive or wrong?
