I did the same a few years ago and opted for a diesel. The mileage I was doing I needed to be able to get there with no range anxiety. I was spending £200pm on fuel. I don't spend that anymore as I cycle but we have three cars in our family. I love the idea of an EV.
Are you limited with the mileage? I spend the same as you on the car and fuel. But I will own my car and will drive it for years. It's certainly very interesting.
How much did you pay for a cheap, bog standard EV? I think this might be the problem. If it's on par with a diesel/petrol equipment or cheaper, people might buy it. At the moment they're too expensive for the ordinary person.
