yeah i think about moving north of the border quite a lot but unless we were right in the centre of Glasgow/Edinburgh we'd be facing similar issues. we'll be alright here for the time being but it's weird to think we're in a world where Avoiding Racism has become a prerequisite for where we live.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
just can't think of anywhere in the UK, Europe, or the rest of the world where me and Nur won't eventually face some kind of discrimination or racism for having a mixed marriage. even a percentage of intermarried Jews started getting sent to death camps in 1945. we're at the 1930s appeasement stage.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
Nur was born in London and has Malaysian Indian heritage, so she doesn't stick out as someone from a Muslim family, but i reckon that won't matter soon enough and that we're less than 12 months away from someone calling her a Paki in the street. and there's nothing we could do in that moment.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social)
all this flag shagging stuff has got me thinking about where me and Nur can run off to where she hopefully won't be the victim of abuse in the near future. it's definitely coming round here. there's literally nowhere we could go, is there? everyone's poor, everyone's angry, everyone's racist.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
still don't think we should be letting him, unless Donnarumma coming in points towards Pep deciding on a little tweak to our approach from the back? felt very happy with Ederson and Trafford being our options this season, but apparently not.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
said as much when i was on the show last 12 months ago. him and Walker together revolutionised us and let Pep do exactly what he wanted to do. no coincidence that we've dropped off as Ederson's started picking up injuries and Walker has grown older. those are the two we really need to replace.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
if i was Trafford i'd be looking to get out in January. he has future England no.1 potential and he's not going to fulfil it sat behind Donnarumma for the next 5 years. lots of top clubs are in need of a new keeper and he's shown he's capable of playing in PL games. all of this is just... not on.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
and in the middle of all this we've brought back a talented lad who's been at City's academy since he was 13, given him assurances that he'll be our #1 keeper by 2026, and then hastily signed Donnarumma - a keeper with a totally different skillset to Ederson & Trafford who will keep the #1 shirt.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
this is what i was on about the other day in that thread (i think i deleted it?). this "win at all costs, no room for sentiment" atmosphere descending on City as our most successful era winds down... Ederson shuffled out without a goodbye, Gundogan about to leave TWICE without a goodbye. feels sad.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social)
can't tell you how bothered i am by Ederson's departure. leaves without getting a proper goodbye, dumped out at the end of the window. not my favourite City GK (Joe Hart 💙) but he's our most decorated of all time and arguably the most influential keeper to play in England this century. feels wrong.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
Donnarumma
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
not on board with this Donnarumma deal at all. save ratio% is the same as Ederson's and he's nowhere near as good with his feet, so what's the plan? Trafford will learn and has shown signs of being a potentially world class keeper. Donnarumma coming in sends an awful message to Trafford imo.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social)
this is absolutely nuts. two months ago we told James Trafford he'd be coming in as #2 and would then get promoted to #1 once Ederson left next summer. now we're selling Ederson, signing a keeper with a completely different skillset, and telling Trafford he'll never be #1. fuckin bonkers.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social)

Rylan can have any opinion on immigration that he likes but we should not be hearing them on national breakfast TV. and for the other three to just sit there while he repeats racist myths which have been debunked dozens of times... cowards. this is why we need to ban 24 hour TV pronto.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social)
if people are seriously listening Rylan Clark discussing immigration on national TV then something has gone terribly wrong. same with whenever the Loose Women lot are asked about Palestine and suchlike. we should not be hearing what these kinds of people have to say about any of these matters.

even Chelsea's two periods of dominance in England (2004-2010, 2014-2017) don't include their two CL titles. City, Arsenal, United, Chelsea, and Liverpool win basically everything now - too much power and money concentrated into too small a space. that's not what English football was about.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
it's probably not over now. we have a ridiculous amount of money behind us. if United's "banter era" somehow includes three domestic cups and a European trophy (plus two finals) then ours will be fine. same goes for Arsenal who dropped to the low low depths of... 8th semi-recently.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
i've loved every trophy we've won so much, and i obviously want us to win every game we play, but i'm not gonna go mad trying to come up with ways for us to be the best forever. we've had a very long day in the sun, way longer than most, and it's fine if it's over now.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
it's only really since Liverpool dominance of the 80s and United's dominance of the 90s that a certain select group of English teams started expecting to pile up trophies year after year after year, and considered anything else to be abject failure. City fans have caught that bug.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
most recently you'd say the Leicester team of 2016-2021 is about the closest example to Spurs' early 80s team, Clough's Derby and Forest teams, the Villa team from 75-81, City's 68-76 team etc. where they had a shiny moment, everyone said "well done chaps", and they fell down the table again.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
i just....*sigh* i dunno. up until about the late 80s the English football pyramid prided itself on the idea that most teams would have a chance to have their day in the sun. you'd get a solid team together, keep it going for as long as you could, and then it'd be someone else's turn.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
we've had a solid 10-15 years as the best team in the country. more than enough for a lifetime. more than 99.9% of football fans ever experience. we either get back to those levels again or we don't. big deal. maybe a downturn in fortunes will send some of these gloryhunting freaks away.

they were DEMANDING Nico Gonzalez as a Rodri back-up but after one dodgy game with his arm basically in a sling they're DEMANDING he be dropped. arguably the sign of a fanbase that knows the peak has been reached and instead of just looking back on the memories they're desperate for more and more.

it's like, do you want future ASOIAF books because you love George's writing and want to swim in his world, or do you want future ASOIAF books so you can immediately skip to the end of Winds on release day and find out if the Others broke through the Wall with a horn.

people who make stuff will know how much it's (probably) hurting him that he's not yet been able to nurture his baby exactly how he originally wanted. people who don't make stuff just want more content and don't understand why they can't just be given the bullet points of the plot immediately.

ghoulish isn't it. i want George to finish the series, but only for himself. i think you can always tell the difference between people who do create and people who don't when future ASOIAF books come up. people who create seem to better understand that sometimes big projects can't be tied up.

you can say the diner scene in Mulholland Drive is actually about Americans knowing something evil is hiding underneath their society, and you'd probably be right, but Lynch would just say "well i had this idea to have a freaky guy hanging out behind a diner, so that's what we did, and it felt good"
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
but not everything Lynch does in a single project pulls in the same direction. sometimes something will just be there not for a complex reason, but because Lynch saw an image in his head and went "holy hell that would look amazing" or "holy shit that really matches the atmosphere i'm going for".
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
i feel like people pore over his work looking for Lynch to provide the answers, when they could provide the best answers by just trusting their own feelings. i'm not saying Lynch has zero authorial intent, or that he doesn't have things to say about society and politics and popular culture.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
whenever he's been interviewed, he's always struck me as being way more of an impressionist than filmbros apply to their interpretations of him. sometimes he'll put something in his work just because it looks good or because he has a particularly intense feeling, regardless of where it "fits".
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
obviously Lynch works within a recognisable "structure", but if you try to break his films down into puzzle pieces that, when assembled in the "correct" order, will *reveal the actual complete picture* of what he wanted to say... i don't think that's productive or likely to yield positive results.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
he's always struck me as the kinda artist who just trusts a particularly striking image, or a particularly startling moment, to generate a strong feeling in the audience. and from there, the audience will build their own meaning and come to the conclusions that means the most to them.
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social) reply parent
i'm not trying to do Lynch a disservice here, and i'm not saying it's a fool's errand to try and work out the emotional intentions within his work, but Lynch has always seemed to me to be way more a "rule of cool / if it feels good, do it" filmmaker than a lot of people seem to think?
colourfulsevens.bsky.social (@colourfulsevens.bsky.social)
the thing is, if you put this to Lynch at a Q&A and asked if he mourned 50s Americana but exposed its "rotten underbelly" via his villains, the opening line of his response would be "Well, ya know... every film needs a... creepy guy" and the audience would fall about laughing.
