A fossil from 247 million years ago was initially mistaken for an ancient fern. Recent research has now identified it as something never seen before: a new type of appendage on an ancient reptile. buff.ly/42yKSpG

Illustration of Mirasaura grauvogeli. Text says: This finding of extraordinary skin appendages, or integumentary appendages, on a fossil reptile is interesting because these structures are just so weird compared to anything we're familiar with among extant animals. —Dr. Richard Prum

💯 This is not only a good read, but worthy of a good long think about how we women tend to self-sabotage our needs.

Hey everybody! @drjuliawester.bsky.social and I have a new paper! We surveyed over 800 scientists, science communicators, and science educators who use social media. Conclusion: Scientists no longer find Twitter useful or pleasant, and many have switched to Bluesky! 🧪🌎🦑 doi.org/10.1093/icb/...

Isobel Gunn pushed against the norms of the day by refusing to do what society expected of her. With a thirst for adventure, she chose instead to pose as a man and work for the Hudson's Bay Company. This is her story. 🧵 1/10

A black-and-white photograph featuring a silhouette of a woman in a long dress standing in a desolate, open landscape. In the background, there is a small, weathered stone house with a chimney, surrounded by a low stone wall. The sky is overcast with large, dark clouds, adding a moody atmosphere to the scene.

The argument against regulation is always the same: “It stifles growth and jobs.” But just as tax cuts for corporations have not trickled down, regulatory cuts have not benefited most people. Big companies enjoy bigger profits. Working people bear the costs.

This actually sounds like a good step forward. Once Europe recognizes you as ‘safe’ there will be no need to stand in line for a border agent to say you’re okay. We already do this when we go back and forth to the US.

When listening to Poilievre's rhetoric, remember, Stephen Harper's government invoked back-to-work legislation a total of four times during their time in office. These instances involved disputes with postal workers, Air Canada mechanics, & workers at two separate ports. All govts do this! #cdnpoli

For 14 years, it was a staple of children's programming in Canada. With French-Canadian hosts, it was broadcast on English networks and was the first exposure to French for many Canadian children. This is the story of Chez Hélène! 🧵 1/10

Two people, one older woman and one younger girl, standing near a clock on a wall. The older woman is pointing with a smile, while the younger girl is making a playful face. A small doll or figurine is placed on a surface below the clock. The scene appears to be indoors with a brick wall and curtain in the background.

No, as with other healthcare, it is the responsibility of the provinces to provide vaccines, including for Covid. The feds provided it in the beginning, but transfer to the provinces occurred last January. Here in Alberta, we will now be charged for the cost of the vaccine. I think it’s around $100.

OTOH, if we all head off to BC for our vaccines we play right into the UCP’s plans. They don’t need to provide any vaccines, just get other provinces to pay!

Perhaps they’re trying to soften us up on the healthcare front, in preparation for ultimately becoming part of the US. We are so complacent here, it just might work.
