We should not be letting the EPS board off the hook here. It is too reminiscent of what we are seeing in the US. Instead of standing up and saying “No”, the board caved in and complied with an unjustified order. We need heroes right now, not cowards. The EPS board shares blame with the UCP.

I feel your pain.The same thing happened to me several years ago. We were best from the age of six. 50 years on, she knew me better than I knew myself. A part of you is now gone, and that hurts. I get your scepticism, but nuclear power gen today is not at all like the big generators of yore. They are much smaller, less impactful environmentally & faster to build. And they reuse their own nuclear waste, so waste storage is no longer such an issue. Overall, they’re extremely efficient.

You make some very good points. Many people, especially conservatives, believe private enterprise is wholly responsible for all major innovations. The truth is that without gov’t backing, industry is unwilling to take on that level of risk. Think electrification, highways, pipelines, etc.

I agree. Referendums are unsettling and unhelpful. Having said that, in this case the gov’t is intent on seeing this happen. So the discussion about its efficacy is moot. The best we can do now is ensure the question is clear and unambiguous. Which is why I support Mr. Lukaszuk’s efforts.

Remember, whenever you hear that “speed wasn’t a factor” in a deadly crash, what they mean is that the car involved wasn’t technically speeding. At least “not by much.” It presumes that the speed limit wasn’t too high to begin with. When it comes to death from collisions, SPEED IS ALWAYS a factor.

No, as with other healthcare, it is the responsibility of the provinces to provide vaccines, including for Covid. The feds provided it in the beginning, but transfer to the provinces occurred last January. Here in Alberta, we will now be charged for the cost of the vaccine. I think it’s around $100.
