Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah I don't know the right answer either. And I agree, the last person I'd take my anger and existential angst out on is children, and it is so fucked up that hateful fascist rhetoric would drive someone to do that.
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
I know detransitioning and conversion therapy are very close together, but I'll still respect someone's chosen gender regardless of how they get there. That only seems fair, even if they aren't in the best state of mind. Dangerous slope to deny someone their gender based on their mental state.
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
I 100% agree with that too. But just as I respected her right to transition, I also respect his right to transition back. It's just such a fucking mess, an exhausting mess, all of it.

Idk, I say this as queer/trans myself, if we respect the right for people to transition then I think it's only fair we respect the right to detransition? Regardless of their reasons, we should respect what gender they want to be seen as, and especially important when a Nazi does a mass shooting

I'm not American so that's a bit of a moot point. Either way this is irrelevant? I asked what the difference is whether Trump actually won or not, as he is currently (and hopefully dead) seated in the whitehouse pushing authoritarian policy. Doesn't matter who actually "won"

Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
It's 2025, I'm sure we can come up with some better standards and guidelines for how to live a moral life, new religions, new ways of being. Why cling to a 2000 year old book? You want to talk about context? Show me a religious text that takes vaccines and internet into context.
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
That's still polygamy, as opposed to monogamy. Just like the bible calling for "ethical" treatment of slaves is still supporting the practice of slavery
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
But I'm not judging the bible by the standards of its time, I'm judging it by the standards of modern day because people are still quoting it and using it as justification for their actions. I don't care about the context under which it was written, I care about the context it is being used in

Cool. What are you doing about it?
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
On local soil maybe. In Latin America, the Middle East, North Africa, and SEA the US was funding, arming, and training groups to install dictatorships. Decades of complacency are why it's happening in your own country now. Your government is applying lessons they learnt toppling other nations
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
Right? Moses freed himself and his people from slavery, but that is very different from the more general "freed slaves". As you say, the Bible is very pro-slavery
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
When? Fascism was a popular ideology in the US before Pearl Harbour. They wanted to stay out of the war until then. And after that? It's been decades of violent imperialism. All that has changed is that the imperialism has come back to home soil. WW2 ended 80 years ago

Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
Your intelligence is currently complicit and aiding the regime. I am saying that the US is not a nation that stops coups, it starts them. The idea that the US comes in guns blazing and ends rebellions and coups is Hollywood propaganda for military recruitment
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
WW2 was a long time ago and that victory required massive effort from the UK and the Soviets, not to mention all the other allied nations. I think you've drank your own koolaid, the US has been an oppressor state for decades now. The oppression has come home

Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
In general, if liberals want to win they could try appealing to leftists instead of the right wing. So for example when Kamala threw trans people under the bus and didn't vow to end support to Israel, she could have instead not done that.

I'm going to engage with you genuinely on the off chance that maybe you're just naive on the matter. Liberals are the ones that pretend to care about being progressive, and might even try to enact progressive policy, as long as it doesn't disrupt the status quo too much. Think Dems funding genocide

Who is this "y'all" you're lumping me in with? Yes so you are agreeing with me. Cultists that now have a figurehead and a reason to work together. Now what happens when their figurehead dies and they realise they have opposing goals?
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm making observations of cult dynamics based on the fracturing and schisms of previous cults when their leaders die. In case it really absolutely needs stating, I hope they find Trump dead on a toilet tomorrow. Explaining that his cult will fracture when that happens isn't an endorsement
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
Precisely zero leaders of the cult of Trumpism have died because it is a new cult formed from the disparate voices of the right. They hate each other but they are willing to work together under Trump, those shaky alliances will be tested when Trump dies. What future am I imagining for myself?
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm not saying they won't. But right now he has millions pulling in the same direction, his direction. When the cult leader dies, the cult fractures, and people fight over power. A schism is coming.
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
He's not pulling the strings, he's not making the plans, he's a figurehead, I do fully understand that. But none of that matters when his cult of millions see him as the Messiah. Doesn't matter who is actually in charge, it matters who the followers believe is in charge.
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent

I don't like that neoliberal globalisation created a World Factory in the first place. But that's what we have. And it's good that they are racing to shift to green energy. I'll criticize the West and China on many things, but how can I criticize this shift to solar?
Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) (@davidwelman.bsky.social) reply parent
