Yeah, I got the math wrong while laying awake in bed in the middle of the night.
The original comparison was about Maris/Mantle in 1961, so the Mets/Colt 45s weren't a factor yet. Besides, in the 12/14/60 expansion draft, the Angels and Senators drafted players only from the 8 AL teams, not from the NL clubs. The leagues were two separate entities in most respects until the 90s.
In the 1961 expansion, the AL grew from 8 to 10 teams (20% increase), at a time when AL and NL players rarely switched leagues. The 1993 and 1998 expansions grew MLB from 26 to 30 teams (15.4% increase). By that measure, 1961 was a bigger shock to the league balance than 1993 and 1998 combined.

I really think this injury will be the difference between him and the HOF. It's a shame.
Maybe, who knows.
MLBPA might ask them to ban MLB from gambling apps, but that will cost the league millions. The league will say, "do you want this, or do you want more money in player compensation," and they'll take the player compensation but maybe the league agrees to have a gambling disclaimer on broadcasts.
Right, I expect them to put it forward in their initial proposal, but when we get into February it March 2027, and they're pushing against a hard cap, they'll take some compromise on security that doesn't address the core issue of MLB's lucrative, dangerous embrace of gambling apps.
I wish I was confident that the union would draw a line in the sand around this issue. I expect them to ask for more protection, but I don't think they'll make it a core of their negotiating platform.
MLB can do something about it. They just don't want to bc it will cost them money and sponsorships. Instead, they have security theater for players around harassment, but it amounts to nothing meaningful. They do just enough to say they're doing something without actually accomplishing anything.

Y'know, lost in all of this is that being "blackout drunk" is never an excuse for anything. You're still responsible for your actions, no matter how much you've had to drink. If you aren't willing to accept that, don't drink so much. I've never known anyone to be a bigot ONLY while drunk.

Fair point. My issue is it's all detected around him and making him draftable, not about the Jewish community he harmed.
I'm never surprised by antisemitism anymore, but horrified by how quickly our non-Jewish society forgives, forgets, moves on. Remember when Kanye bought a Super Bowl ad just to sell swastika shirts? Or when Kyrie Irving's antisemitic comments in Brooklyn led to bomb threats at NJ synagogues? I do.
This details an extensive process he went through to understand his actions, including a five-week course designed for him by Yeshiva U. But it does nothing for the victims of Jewish hate or to stop antisemitism. Redemption comes not from educating himself but by educating others, & he hasn't yet.
