My email has been down since 10am. The service provider is working on it but crappy they don’t have a proper back up. I’m going to cancel them anyway as they have been bought by another company. Prices going up. Services getting worse. Why do big companies think they can do do that with impunity

Public health is being run down so that private contractors can make more $. They don't have the budget to pay an admin person to staff the department at (admin rates - not doctors.) But they do have another budget to fly a surgeon 1500k for a half day of surgeries + their specialist fees.

Literally all they needed to do was to tell me not to expect any staff on that department and it would have been Ok. But everything went late and stress levels were high all round. I logged a complaint because it won't get fixed if no one does that.

Kohuko is the best film about Kabuki theatre I have seen. Actually it’s the only one. Every film festival I pick a few films to stretch my imagination. I recall Bowie had some interest in the craft. This film is almost 3 hours of immersion into the intensity needed to succeed in that artform.

Rialto Theatre - a corner upstairs. The theatre is full of alcoves that are no longer used. Its like a deserted night club. There is a timeless quality to onnagata [male actors who play female characters]. They’re in a class of their own. They’re sensual in a sophisticated way and if I may say...the sensuality strikes you unexpectedly. Sang-il Lee Kokuho 2025 Directed by Sang-il Lee Visions The all-consuming dedication of the Japanese Kabuki artist gets its due in an ornate, decades-spanning spectacular of passion and pain that charts the journey of two young trainees.

I’m headed out to the beach for sunrise soon, and the stars in the early morning sky are brilliant here in dark sky te Tairāwhiti. This is an iPhone photo of Matariki, the appearance of which is Aotearoa/New Zealand’s first indigenous holiday. (This cluster is also known as Pleiades)

Thing is, China is happy to sell solar panels to anyone in the world, for quite low margins, and at a lifetime net price that is vastly less than that of fossil fuels. They could power the world and capture less value than a single middleweight petrostate.

Turns out setting up an immigration detention tent camp without legal authority in a protected swamp nature preserve with a dark sky designation, that had almost zero infrastructure, in the scorching hot Florida summer, during hurricane season, did not turn out well.

The Careless People book notes that they have progressively lost the plot. Tenuous to start with but now on the the dark side because more profitable.

Avatar is a tedious pile of steaming shit except for the work of the CG artists. If humans hadn't done the CG work on that, Terminator 2, The Abyss, Titanic, he'd be nothing but an 80s memory. What an ungrateful twat.

Great work here from @carbonbrief.org , debunking common myths about solar power. The reason that solar power makes so much sense is fundamental physics - it takes energy in its most useful form, as soon as it arrives on Earth, before it's "taxed" in entropy. Making use of it is a slam-dunk win.
