I know, I know, but: The president of the US saying, literally, "we're going in" in reference to sending the military to an American city for no reason beyond terrorizing the local population should be the most immediately impeachable shit imaginable

My local bank branch has a notary, but they also have a pretty short list of things they will agree to notarize, so I feel like it undermines the concept of them being a “notary public”. I’ve had better luck at UPS stores, but I’m guessing those are endangered, too.

According to a recently declassified study covering stardates 40500 to 56000, junior officers were 24 times as likely to be maimed or killed by transporter accidents, despite the fact that they were used much more often by bridge officers.

Vance argued that Americans who trace their ancestry to pre-Civil War have a greater claim to citizenship (slaves’ descendants excluded, natch) and others should be officially second class. He explains his beliefs a lot. But acknowledging it means admitting they’re extreme and no Dem is equivalent.

It would appear that they’ve determined that “emergencies” are, like “facts”, more powerful and useful if you invent and declare them instead of just observing and responding to them.

I think we need to stop saying that people hate crime. They like punishment. There are clear ways to reduce crime that involve systemic investment in communities but we avoid doing that in favor of ever more militarized policing because too many people in power like punishment.

There’s a chance a winning ticket will be blown by a breeze into your open window, or will be sent to you by an attractive stranger, or accidentally packed into a box delivered to you. And statistically, the chances of those happening are not really any worse than if you bought your own tickets.
