“The now undisputed Biden decline"--ha ha, look at this guy trying to make his narrative the default by pretending it's what everyone thinks. IMO, by next year more people are going to miss Biden's verbal gaffes when they have an actual declining POTUS calling the shots. :p

Agreed. We knew SCOTUS was pursuing a "unitary executive" policy, but I didn't expect Congress to give up its power so readily and so quickly. Hell, I didn't expect Rubio to contort himself into the shape he's in now, standing on the rubble of the USAID with that sickly smile on his face.

Having said that, I'm also a pragmatist: as you say, we have to figure out the new rules, like them or not. I'm more in favor of a panel of experts that can share results with affected states, but of course, someone has to pay for that.
Ed Matuskey (@ed-matuskey.bsky.social) reply parent
The issue is, any "analysis" the LLMs do is based on predictive modeling, not actually understanding what's there. So yes, you could get results in minutes--but then you'd have to have your experts crawl through it to validate them, in case a particular reg got a bunch of downvotes on Reddit.

Build denser. Add bike lanes. More fast transit. Create walkable envrionments. All of that and more. But cars have a place in that world too, and creating solutions that ignore that reality is not, IMO, a path that is viable in the long term.
Ed Matuskey (@ed-matuskey.bsky.social) reply parent
Your reality is subjective. Due to eyesight issues I've gone without driving my whole life: while it is certainly possible to get by without a car (at least in the city), I am more limited in my options than those who can drive. Ignoring that reality risks building solutions people will resist.
Ed Matuskey (@ed-matuskey.bsky.social) reply parent
Hey, bikes are great--unless it's raining. Or snowing. Or super hot. Or you have to transport something heavy. Or you have to get kids to/from school. Or you're dressed up to go out. Again: I'm pro transit, pro bike, pro density--I just want to be realistic about the part cars still play.
Ed Matuskey (@ed-matuskey.bsky.social) reply parent
It's a strategy, but I don't think you can--or even should--do away with personal vehicles entirely. They provide a level of utility and personal freedom that shouldn't be the exclusive purview of homeowners with garages. There's a middle ground to be found somewhere IMO.

I prefer this over a parking lot, absolutely. And maybe there are more people who have gone totally carless than I think. But I also won't be shocked if they have trouble filling units because street parking in Wallingford is already a hassle.
Ed Matuskey (@ed-matuskey.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure, if all they do is go to work or places on a bus line--and don't mind it always taking 2-3x longer to get anywhere. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about transit, but transit doesn't get you everywhere and it doesn't run all the time--and sometimes it breaks down or is full at awkward moments.
