Oh no! Please don't bankrupt the industry that is killing the planet so it can make inaccurate and often directly problematic "human-like" outputs. Why should we value the work of people who have spent countless hours, months, years of their life perfecting a craft? Go for it! Do it for all of us!

It's not going away because it's simply a rebranding of technology. Literally everything with a sensor or computer chip has "AI". Even when it's an identical product to something that was made before AI. Given the definition, a vintage mercury thermometer has AI because it knows the temperature.

It seems to be making the argument that MLM's are actually a propaganda tool to sell "the American Dream" and the idea that poverty is a moral failure because you didn't work hard enough. I suspect it will eventually link to Trump's popularity.

There was a surge in get-rich-quick bloggers during the pandemic. It came from the "passive-income" ideology. And was primarily supported by an MLM-style scheme of people selling blogging as easy money. Like podcasting, there's little start up costs, but it takes a lot of quality work to succeed.

Pausing travel the the U.S. After careful consideration and in response to recent U.S. entry restrictions, Girl Guides of Canada is suspending travel the the US, including previously-approved trips and any future trips. This will take effect on September 1, 2025 and last until further notice. There is something humorous about that election running out of control... and not much fun to be had in David Suzuki telling us that it's too late. 🫤

I think people are starting to realize that communication-like junk is still junk. Hard to say if that's because of AI or Trump... but there's hope for the future as people learn to identify whether something is thought or just words strung together in the right kind of order.

Oh... her picture just looked so fake. 😂 And I'm not on that platform anymore. In that case, she sounds like a teen trying to pretend they aren't jealous of not being invited to the party.

If you're also feeling salty that 5% of our GDP is going to defence and as a result, the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality's budget is being slashed, you should contact your MP and give them hell. But you should also participate in the pre-budget consultation! Link here :

What are the chances that it's an AI bot? All the right words, just not used in the right way.

As someone living in downtown Victoria... I see this first hand. The tourist traffic is way higher than normal. Lots of Alberta license plates. And it looks like the Ontario road trippers just arrived this week. We're waiting to see if Quebecers arrive next weekend. 😉

This is why I’m afraid of his rhetoric on Canada and statement about not getting a trade deal with us. Fascists need someone to blame… and I fear we’ll be next. I predict we’ll be blamed for his economic failures.

Suggests a very limited life for this project. Obviously just a whole for selfish billionaires to throw their money into.

I’m also trying to focus on the fact that the news disproportionately features these people. Just think about our neighbors. Most of us are wonderful people. Not perfect, but certainly not out to destroy the world. 😂 unless you have any evil plans in the works?

I think there’s a certain proportion of the population with an antisocial personality disorder. It’s a very small proportion, but they occupy way more headspace than everyone else. I think we need to normalize talking about this antisocial behaviour as a disability rather than something to emulate

Given that Trump seems to be following a 1930s style fascist playbook. I think Canadians should be quite concerned about this. Fascists need an enemy to feed their regime. Trump needs an enemy to explain the horrible inflation Americans are going to face. I fear the rhetoric will be blame Canada.

It is generally accepted that children can’t consent. Employees can’t consent. Students can’t consent. How is it that one woman in a hotel room with five men is expected to have the free ability to consent? The power imbalance was huge. And even the hockey players knew that.

I’m pretty sure most people who don’t have to travel to the US for work or family reasons won’t be travelling to the US anytime soon. And it’s not because of tariffs. It’s because we are afraid of border security.

There is no way that hotel room was a safe space for real consent. Even the guys knew it, which is why they made her make consent videos and followed up with her the next day about it.

I would say an unreliable testimony actually makes her more reliable than a group of men who created a perfect testimony. Anyone who has done work in memory, eyewitness, testimony, trauma, etc., knows that memory is always unreliable. Acknowledging that shouldn’t be a weakness.

Mark Carney promised “elbows up” against the US, but he’s offering a warm embrace to US tech companies and the AI hype they’ve unleashed. As Canada’s AI minister suggests AI regulation is off the table, there’s ample reason to be worried about Carney’s tech agenda. My latest for @breachmedia.ca:
