The reason Kilmar Abrego Garcia was not eligible for asylum in 2019 was nothing to do with the merits of his case. It was because of the one year filing deadline, which requires a person to apply for asylum within one year of entering the US. It's now been less than a year since he entered the US!

Xinis: I think it's best for everyone to move toward that hearing. Everyone, including the president, has been telling the world they pan to deport Mr. Abrego to Uganda. They seem pretty firm on that. All indications point to the idea that we need to get this part of Mr. Abrego's case moving.
