Not sure this also counts county and city, but point taken. I've also wondered how "states hold back the taxes" strategy would work, since, yes, employers, not the state, manage tax payments. Could state pass law that taxes go through a state escrow fund, first? No idea. Just spitballin'!
Yeah, I would like to learn more about this, specifically as it refers to TX. So registers DEMs either aren't voting or aren't able to vote?

Same - re: priority. I guess I could swing a small streaming bill, but I guess I've *always* felt pretty strongly about voting with my dollar, even before this current mess. Not spending money on streaming means I can keep a few more of my dollars out of national chains I've never liked.
(And I should add that I don't pirate.)
I don't like my own response here - whether or not I can afford cable isn't the point. People need to do what they need to do. But I do see a difference btw not being able to afford to buy groceries at a small local shop and keeping Paramount. Paramount isn't the only option for entertainment.
I'm not attempting to guilt anyone. Frankly, I can't afford cable, nor do I even own a television of any sort, but I do manage to entertain myself without it.

Agree with that, too. (And I am one of those folks.) This is going to take real community, real looking after one another. And I think that's also a benefit of the big protest events: community building, feelings of empowerment, all that.
@chenoweth.bsky.social would disagree on that point. Her research indicates quite the opposite. Collective non-compliance has done the trick both more often and better than violence over the past 100 years. (Which is still messy, but far fewer dead people.)
