I personally didn't think you were being misogynistic or sexist. But I'm not a woman. I think men can appreciate the effort and admire another man's physique. I'd also argue that women will generally find men who are in shape more attractive than those who are overweight. There are always outliers.
FermeLaBoucher (@gertbigobbit.bsky.social) reply parent
But then they'd have no plot.

Yeah you'd think that they have orbital defences or would have picked it up sooner, or tried to alter its course somehow so that it didn't crash into an urban area.

Spaced meme. Yeah it is. Very portentous and takes itself way too seriously. That's why it's so enjoyable. I'm not sure which movie Palance thinks he's in but he's hilarious! Actually, maybe he knew exactly which movie he was in...

What do you mean bro? Bro?
FermeLaBoucher (@gertbigobbit.bsky.social) reply parent
They briefly touch on the interesting idea that our brains change with our bodies (hormones etc) but it goes nowhere. The idea that the genius Kavalier would think sending powerful androids with the minds of eight year olds into a traumatic crash zone and no training is a good idea "because"..

I just tend to rewatch the original series and II, III, IV and VI these days. The first movie isn't awful, they just didn't quite get the characterisations right. V is just a bit...daft.
FermeLaBoucher (@gertbigobbit.bsky.social) reply parent
Everybody seems to be "Don't worry about people who bleat about canon/lore" but canon is-to me at least-world building and about being consistent within the fiction and therefore important for my engagement. See also Disney Star Wars,Kurtzman Trek, any post II Terminator movies,The Rings Of Power. π€¦ββοΈ

Prometheus. Covenant. Ugh. Don't remind me. Sometimes producers should just tell Ridley "No". I knew Prometheus was going to be terrible when I saw Lindelof of Lost "fame"was writing it. Same MO. All questions and no answers. The Abrams fucking "Oooh mystery box" school of scriptwriting.
FermeLaBoucher (@gertbigobbit.bsky.social) reply parent
I find myself frustrated watching it. The characterisation is very thin and so is the world building. I don't buy the corporations overtaking governments premise. I think they're going to have a hard time explaining why all this far more advanced tech isn't in Alien or Aliens.

I suppose what I'm saying is our happiness ultimately doesn't rest with someone else. Look to someone else to make you happy and there will probably be two unhappy people. We are shaped by our thoughts, we become what we think.
FermeLaBoucher (@gertbigobbit.bsky.social) reply parent
Can one be disconsolate all the time? I don't know. I do think you have to be able to see value in yourself for that value to be seen by others. Think you're unworthy and that's how you may present yourself to the world. "Begin at once to live, and count each separate day as a separate life."

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's terrible in the movies he is in, he picks roles that suit him, but she can hardly argue any of those really call for dramatic range. I really enjoyed John Wick; for example, but it's hardly peak emoting.

It's not an easy thing for us to do and we can only try. I hope you feel brighter soon anyway and don't stop talking. The best thing about the sometimes toxic aspects of social media is that it can connect us with people in positive ways. That's why I like coming on here. Grogtogetherness!

You're also doing the best thing now. Not keeping it to yourself, sharing how you feel. So then you understand you're not alone in experiencing these things. It's okay to sit with these things. Thoughts arise unbidden in our minds multiple times a day. We don't have to give them our attention.

This thing doesn't want to show itself, it wants to hide inside an imitation. It'll fight if it has to, but it's vulnerable out in the open. If it takes us over, then it has no more enemies, nobody left to kill it. And then it's won.

Original and best. I don't mind cleaned up matte lines, but sometimes I think he tinkered too much. The official Blu-ray is not as good as versions I've seen remastered from 35mm prints. They're a labour of love by certain groups with impressive technical know-how and not distributed for profit.
FermeLaBoucher (@gertbigobbit.bsky.social) reply parent
Which I totally get. I just like to replicate the moviegoing experience as much as I can, and a big screen just does that for me. I still love going to the cinema, I just find it frustrating that some people can't behave appropriately and observe proper cinema etiquette.
