The kids apparently arrived in the U.S. unaccompanied. Their parents might be alive in Guatemala, or possibly have been killed by gang violence or in some natural disaster. I have read that some parents have even sent their kids to el Norte when they couldn’t afford to feed the family. 1/
I did see an article that stated that the government of Guatemala was ready and willing to accept the children; but hard to say what might happen after that. If they’re unable to find the families, their care resources may be insufficient to support many of them. It’s not a wealthy country.
Unconscionable as this whole situation is, it does prompt a question in my mind: If the Guatemalan government is willing and able to receive these children, can’t they send an aircraft to make the transfer? I know that Guatemala is not a wealthy nation but these are their citizens. Any thoughts?

They most likely have coyotes, and maybe bobcats, in that area, developed or not. And a shotgun is a pretty good deterrent to human predators, too. I’d be much more concerned if they had semiautomatic rifles or handguns. Not gonna diss the handyman, though. He may have some gun trauma in his past.
