He’s an eejit. I’ve never been a fan but he has a following and with that comes responsibilities. Our TV broadcasters are a waste of space too and culpable for allowing people to peddle their lies

I went for my first wild swim today, sort of, managed to sit in the water for around 45 seconds. It was a wee bit windy and the tide was out but I’ll definitely do it again. I’m nice and tingly now #WildSwimming #Health

We have a visitor trying to stay out of the rain by sheltering under the eaves of the house #Wildlife #Nature

On our walk today we came across an Adder basking in the sun, thankfully off the main track. A beautiful creature, it slithered off hissing as I took a picture. The first live one I’ve seen in years #Nature #Wildlife
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social)
Today’s excursion was a walk to Loch Glass and the Pink House near Evanton in the Scottish Highlands. This was one of the finest Caledonian Pine forests I’ve seen though rhododendron was encroaching after looking like it had been cut back. #Walking

I’ve watched this on a loop with a big smile in my face, it’s joyful.

What a life!

Today’s excursion was Culloden and a walk through Culloden woods and Clava stones, an ancient burial site. Culloden is very touristy but that aside you can only imagine what went on here in 1746.

My gardening joy this Summer has come from Buddleja. We cut back an area overgrown with Gorse and Bracken and found two woody Buddleja’s. I cut them down to base and they’ve produced beautifully scented flower spikes and I’ve had Peacock, Comma and Red Admiral butterflies #Gardening #Nature
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
Looking forward to seeing the results

Back in Dunbeath itself and down by the harbour you can see Dunbeath Castle
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social)
Today’s activity was a 7 mile walk in Dunbeath, Caithness. This is historic clearances country and there are many remnants of buildings which once housed families before they were forcibly (and violently in many cases) cleared to make way for sheep #ScottishHighlands #Walking

Just read a line from the book I’m reading (Dominion, by CJ Sansom): ‘1914 was an orgy of nationalism and flag waving and you’d think people would have learned from that, what it led to’
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
Blimey, you do work hard!
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
His honesty is quite refreshing. He’s also very wealthy, it would be good if he could help young farmers break through, those young people who aren’t born to farming but want a route in. People who share his ideals and not the status quo as he says

What an experience to have. I only ever hear cuckoos and never see them

What a lovely day! We were up and away for a big cycle, a beautiful route which involved the 10 minute Cromarty ferry crossing. 47 miles all in and we’re rewarded by exhaustion and a Cromarty beer #Cycling #ScottishHighlands

You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who's coming to save you? Think I’ll be ok but it will be a heart thumping roller coaster

There’s a very simple stone in a persons garden in Dornoch that marks the spot of the execution of Janet Horne, supposed to be the last person in Britain to be executed for witchcraft www.spookyisles.com/janet-horne/. Unfortunately I don’t have a photo of it.
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
Set in London in 1952, it’s a story of authoritarian rule in Britain under Nazi occupation and of resistance and defiance. Here goes….
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social)
In more recent years my favourite author has been CJ Sansom. I have two more of his books to read and I’ve been pacing myself while seeking a writer who is equally has compelling. Today I am starting ‘Dominion’ #Books
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
That’s one happy Whippet 😀
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
In this book, and her debut ‘The Herbalists Secret’, she has created relatable characters full of depth. She writes so beautifully, and is so engaging, that you think of the book when you’re not reading it. I can’t wait to see what she does next. annabellemarx.com
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social)
I have just finished a most fabulous book ‘The Rebel of Seventh Avenue’ by Annabelle Marx. I’m all tears and snotters, what a wonderful piece of writing and this is only her second book. I can’t recommend it enough #Books #HistoricalFiction

Have you seen him in Slow Horses? Excellent series

I say we should celebrate our dogs every day but there is an extra special day. How will you celebrate #internationalDogDay?
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
She is lovely! My issue is I don’t have a secure garden, lots of woods but they’re not fenced off. I hope she finds a good and understanding home
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
She’s very clever!
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
I did have to pick him up once though as this dog just wouldn’t leave him alone. The owner thought it was funny!! Tbh, our preference was to walk Ivor off lead as much as possible (he could also outrun danger)
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
That’s terrible. Ivor was attacked a few times, and he became nervous around big dogs. I tried not to pick him up as my view was always that if I started doing that it would imprint on him the right to be fearful and I wanted him to build his confidence
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
Poor Nova. Was it an attack from the terrier that caused the issue on your mums dog? I’m assuming not over zealous play?
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social)
Here’s one from the Ivor archive. I took loads of standing shots for a needle felt commission at the time. From canine to the woolly end result #Whippets #NeedleFelt

My ground is full of trees, deep with tree roots and rocks. I bought some plants from a private nursery and managed to get them in the ground today but it’s trial and error. I’m working towards woodland planting
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
You’re obviously talented at it, I’d love to be able to draw. I can see why it would be calming, a great mindful activity. You’ll need to share your end result 😀
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
Love it!
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent

Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
I remember giving Ivor a wee bit of toast with peanut butter, it’s a shame as I used to laugh at him as he tried to eat it. Many times I had to put my fingers in his mouth to dislodge the toast from the top of his mouth. He did love peanut butter!
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
The warmth, oh the warmth!
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
Someone made homemade biscuits for Ivor once. They gave him terrible smelly wind and he turned his nose up at that after they lost their freshness. Good luck though, there’s definitely a market for pet treats! Maybe try a local village market?
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social)
Ok, well this dude is the Skeleton Cyclist who sits on the route of an annual endurance event called the Strathpuffer. It’s a 24 hour cycle through a tough woodland terrain that takes place in Winter in the Highlands. Fancy it? strathpuffer.co.uk #Cycling #Fitness

Today, we revisited an area we used to walk often with our much missed Whippet, Ivor. We talked about him for most of the 8 miles, he was such good company and loved his walks #ScottishHighlands #Walking #Nature

This was a commercial timber forest near us that was cleared about 4 years ago, it’s now full of heather which is stunning at this time of year
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
You know I used to see these a lot but I haven’t seen any for several years. Maybe that’s a good thing as they’re staying away from humans, I hope it doesn’t mean they’re struggling
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
I’ve had trial and error with plants and ended up giving some away as they don’t seem to like my environment. The cheese plant, cactus and aloe seem to be all I can keep going
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
Wow! That almost doesn’t feel real! Super photo
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
I have a cheese plant that is quite honestly loving life! It’s constantly throwing out tap roots and I’ve taken cuttings 3 times and now the cuttings are throwing out roots. I’m overwhelmed with cheese plants

I used to massage his paws. We made the mistake of buying paw butter once and didn’t realise it had caused big sores between his toes, I guess a bit like athletes foot on humans. He never let on but it must have been sore. Expensive vet treatment followed and no more paw butter!
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
I love the paw stretched out, I used to hold Ivor’s paw when he lay like that

Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social)
On a walk today we found a baby weasel by the side of a road. Thankfully uninjured but very young and I was surprised it hadn’t been run over. Not knowing what to do I placed it in some long grass in a farmers field hoping the mother will come back. It was very weak

I would have said Scotland can do better than that, but I’m also losing faith in our direction of travel. We need new politics in the UK
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
I think that’s one of the major issues in UK politics, the country is run by people with generally no idea about the working population and don’t live in the real world. It’s one of the reasons folks disengage. It will be interesting to see what Corbyn does
Lynne (@goldenchild.bsky.social) reply parent
Now, I’m curious! Where is that? I’ve travelled the M74 coming from Glasgow to Lockerbie but I don’t recognise it. Probably all changed with the motorway now, unless it’s elsewhere south of Lockerbie 🧐

Looks all very dignified but if you’re anything like Ivor the steak would be straight down the hatch without even tasting it 🤭
