A handful of people repainting crosswalks is hardly dying on a hill. Maybe it's Republicans who are "dying on the hill" of LGBTQ+ erasure, and sending cops to watch for rogue recolorers means those cops can't do things more directly supportive of the dictatorship (e.g, chase down immigrants).

It's suggesting that Dems shouldn't use specific words because they are overused by Dem candidates and alienating, so it seems pretty important to know how much candidates use them in official publications. Maybe they're alienating, but if Dems aren't using them anyway, the "advice" is unnecessary.

I also think it's hard to campaign on an anti-corruption reform platform, because everybody has different views of what "corruption" means, how far the term stretches. Taking bribes? Definitely. Doing something because it helps your biggest donors? Drawing the lines is difficult.

I think the slogan got in the way of any possibility of actual reform, largely *because* it was so easy for grifters and liars to say "We're going to drain the swamp" and get people to cheer for them. And it became associated with QAnon, so I would avoid it or similar sloganeering. /1
