It's not nonsense. The plant was operational long past the time it was supposed to be decommissioned. The other problem is the population living in the area had increased to a size that never could be evacuated.

"Attack of the 50ft Woman" is truly a great movie. Where to begin? The music composed for the film, ships powered by crystals (dilithium, anyone?), not so subtle feminist messaging vs over the top chauvinism, and effects goofs (double exposure and that Roman costume!). I never get tired of it.
