Then it's a situation of who blinks first. A dangerous game for the club that needs that contract for in-season moves. I don't think there's anything more to this than yesterday being a holiday, or that the details of a contract(s) coming back are being worked out.
So who is the player? You mean to tell me is all you got is "an AHL or ECHL player?" I think we all expected that. This is a clickbait headline. Do better.

Can't take it right away though as we'd still be over the cap. But we could do a second trade on day 1 of the season and send them some picks and prospects.
I'd like to imagine a scenario where the Habs trade the Price contract to Pittsburgh, then on day 1 of the season they do another trade to acquire Crosby. Imagine Crosby on a second line playing with Laine and Demidov. I wouldn't be surprised if they outscored Suzuki's line, even with less ice time.
If he's in shape and healthy, I think he easily becomes a solid 2C, even if his faceoff percentage remains in the mid 40% range. He could also be a beast on wing. But he just needs to be in shape and stay healthy. He has the tools.
If they wait, then acquiring the contract costs them an asset. If they take it now, they receive an asset. If Hughes goes into the season with Price still a Hab, it makes zero sense to trade the contract. It won't matter as it will be on LTIR, damage done. No benefit to the Habs moving it later.
Absolutely. The need to move Price's contract is about entering the season cap complaint without using off-season LTIR. Any moves for a 2C or otherwise, can be made at any point going forward to the deadline.
I don't think they need to get as under as possible, just to the start of the season without having to use off-season LTIR. Depending on whom they take back, they could make a second trade for futures or waive them and save $1M putting them in the minors.
If the cost to move the contract is a third round pick or if they have to take back a lesser expiring contract, no problems with that.
Of course, the Habs could always use off-season LTIR as they have the past few seasons, but for in-season LTIR reasons, they'd rather not. But if no deal can be found (and I'm sure he's looking) that's the route they will go again.
The Habs have to be cap compliant prior to the start of the season. They are $6M over right now. Hughes will want to move the contract ASAP. He will absolutely be including a sweetener, but I doubt Price's contract isn't moved before the end of next week.
Price makes $2M salary this season and insurance is paying 60%, so very attractive to a team needing to "stay" at the cap floor. Folks are right, no team is below the floor now, but they can't trade anyone at the deadline and still be at the floor. Several teams will be interested in the contract.
I think the contract is moved same day. I do think there's a deal in place for that at least. I won't be surprised if we also see a 2C acquired either as part of that deal, or in a separate one. Even if Dach is healthy, adding proven 2C to the lineup only makes it stronger. Bolduc/Dach/Newhook?

Yes, but Brian indicated he is expects about 20 more points, putting Newhook at about a 45 point pace. He wasn't expecting 60+ points (and he couldn't achieve that without being in the top 6 no matter how well he played). But I think they may give him a look on the PK. His speed is an asset.

Me too. And yet, if you listen to Americans, they think we are so restrictive that it's hard to own a firearm. If every state in the US had our exact same gun laws, 95% of their population would barely notice a difference.
@bwildemtl.bsky.social @thesickpodcasts.bsky.social regarding Demidov's point total in his rookie season, Michkov/Celibrini were first line players on their clubs. While Demidov will likely get first PP time, his lower 5v5 playing time (with the Habs "second" best players) makes it harder to score.
Byron was a 20 goal/40 point guy (which is around what Brian predicted), so that isn't far off. I think Newhook has a higher ceiling than Byron, but that would be satisfactory, especially in the bottom six. He could be a good PKer too with his speed.
@bwildemtl.bsky.social with regard to Price's contract/cap floor, teams need to stay at that floor in-season. San Jose won't be able to move guys out at the deadline without adding salary. I can see them or Anaheim taking that contract with a small sweetener. Their cost is only $400K.
@bwildemtl.bsky.social Watched the Sick Podcast last night and, as you probably know, I'm right with you regarding Alex Newhook. Half way through last year he was begging to look like the BCHL player that was drafted 16th with so much promise. I think he can have a breakout year this season too.
I watched Season 2, episodes 1 and 2 back to back last night (on YouTube). And I was going to save episode 2 for today as it was late when I was watching. Glad I didn't wait on it. It appears to be gone now.

I wasn't sure so I just looked in my history and it isn't there! Did a search for The Rebuild and am only finding last season's episodes and the trailer for this season. I recall the account was a woman's name and not Crave, so perhaps it was removed and I just got it in time. Showed up in my feed.
Yeah, me too. I watched episodes 1 and 2 on YouTube last night. I don't know if the rest of the series will come on there (or come on that quickly), but at least those two are on now.
If you find out, let me know. I enjoy a good (hot) hot sauce, but some of what's out there these days is heat at the expense of flavor. ED Smith's 3rd Degree is about the limit for me when it comes to a perfect balance of heat/flavour - and it's plenty hot. Other sauces need to be diluted. Ugh.

And even our Canadian gun laws don't preclude responsible gun owners from owning a wide range of firearms. We just do good training, require safe storage, require easy to get hunting licences to bring them in the woods (in season). Can go to a range any time.
Watched the first two episodes last night. Brilliant show. Lots of fun. Although I wish they got more into the behind the scenes management discussions like they did with 24CH. But I guess they didn't like everything that came out of that series.
I totally agree it didn't fit, and I was rolling my eyes in anticipation of it being terrible. Perhaps that's why I didn't find it that bad. I was expecting it to be so much worse. But there's a lot of good episodes after that one. They don't get that silly (yet). And I'm up to date.
Was that the singing one? I actually think they managed to pull it off. I mean, it was campy AF sure, but the story about how/why they sang was a neat twist. Although hopefully they don't revisit the concept. The crossover with Lower Decks is fun.

While I'm loving reading about all the great Habs prospects, it still baffles me Struble was ranked behind all these guys. I don't know what people were thinking (potential?), but Struble is obviously an NHL defenseman. Most of the guys ahead of him have no (or almost no) NHL games yet.

He was an excellent guest. And I understood his proposal to try Bolduc as a 2C for a couple of weeks if Dach's return is simply delayed. Giving the kid a chance to play in the top 6 and creating space for Demidov and Laine isn't the worst idea.
Those are good points. I can see his 5v5 production taking a drop due to less 5v5 ice time, but will it be enough to offset an increase on the PP? It will be interesting to watch.

That may be a good guess. While we all expect Lane to be better due to natural progression, teams will pay more attention to him this season and Dobson will take away some of his minutes so it wouldn't be a shock if his production went down. But if that's all it drops, that would be a success.

I wonder if Donald Trump has watched the 2024 film Civil War, particularly the ending. It's scary how that movie is looking more and more like a near future documentary. If you haven't seen it, you should.
I don't know about that. I think it's just that while Davidson plays a good game and makes the right play more often than not, he doesn't have any one stand out quality. He looks like he could be one of a dozen bottom six prospects the Habs have in the system.

If he's not on track to start the season on time, he has to be close... Like very close.
I've suggested this as a possibility a while back as well and was met with a lot of resistance to the idea. I still think if Dach isn't ready and they don't trade for a 2C, Evans is the ideal candidate to start the season in that position.
I should have say May be available. But there are a number of teams with too many centres at the moment (Anaheim and Seattle in particular) who could stand to move a 2C-type for help elsewhere. They have both young and stop-gap types, but the Habs would likely prefer the "young" option.
I think they are waiting to pay Price's bonus before trading his contract and will then get serious about acquiring a 2C. There are a number of good young guys who will be available. They will cost though. So I'm happy to start the season without any more additions and go from there.

Quite possibly. It's similar to people being upset at the "news" and when I look at what they're mad about it's some commentary program on a news network. Not everything that comes on Fox, CNN, or MSNBC is actual news. Most of it is opinion. Make sure you know which one you're watching.
Perhaps, but I see countless posts every day blaming media for not covering this or that and, like you, I do a quick Google search and there's loads of stories from media on the topic. We have to stop believing the "mainstream media" is lax or is "fake news." That's exactly what Trump wants.
Agreed on all points. I just found it funny that a thread saying "people claim Democrats aren't doing anything - here's proof they are" has a post then claiming the media isn't doing anything, yet all the examples shown are from various media sources.
This grudge stuff the national team management groups have infuriates me as a fan. Build the best team for every tournament, regardless of who played in your last event. People who run the program the way they do should be fired. It's not in the fans' best interests.
And funny enough, all the examples you cite are from articles in, wait for it, the media. And to respond to another person who commented on your thread, I've seen lots of Bernie on TV (more media) slamming Trump too.
It is terrible. They must have paid people to write positive reviews, because there's hardly a moment in there worth watching.
When I started watching it I thought it was going to be stupid. Then I realized they were going for "campy" comedy and once you watch it from the right perspective, it's a fun movie. Think the Peacemaker series (and if you haven't seen that, it's an A+ show).
The new Superman is not really a mature movie. It's quite campy (intentionally so). I think the worst thing in it is a middle finger.
I wish I could ask him directly if he thinks Canadians are as stupid and gullible as American Trump supporters. I mean, I know there's some (I know some personally) but it's not the 1/3 of our population like it is down south.

They were a studio made band, but that also meant some great talent behind them. While they were copycats in a lot of ways, for the time, this was good music.

I'm a Rush fan. No other band matters to me. But I disagree wholeheartedly with the takes that the Beatles weren't great. You have to keep the context of their time in perspective. Nobody was doing what they were. Their later stuff paved the way for prog rock to evolve.

Yep. Agreed. I didn't see him making it either, given they do have some really good D in that group who are bigger and experienced. But as was said, he's likely to be on the team in future tournaments, so exposing him to the camps (and coaches) now should pay benefits later.

Struble at 17... 17! That means there are 16 players under 25 in the Habs organization who are thought to be BETTER than Struble. That's... Insane.
If the Habs were closer to contending I'd say this is a blessing in disguise as not only does it motivate him, but in a season with a compressed schedule, the time off during the Olympic break would be great (for Caufield too). But given where they are, I'd like to see him play the Olympics.
