It's not about crime, obviously, but it's not even really about maintaining any kind of physical control, which was never in any danger. It's about harming political opposition, as in directly and deliberately harming the places where most of the opposition party's voters are.
They do because it has the most night life and high-end restaurants and concert venues and such. Tourism is seasonal, it's the locals from both within and near DC that really keep that economy going. Put up militarized checkpoints, grab people like you're the Gestapo and that flow shuts down fast.
And I'm no sociologist but I'm pretty sure devastating an urban core's economy is not the best way to reduce crime rates, and is in fact exactly the hole DC and other major American cities have spent decades, with good success, climbing their way out of. That's what they're destroying, deliberately.
They don't want some sanitized theme park, in large part that's basically what DC already was. They want destruction and collective punishment. They're are terrorizing DC, and want to do the same to other big cities, simply because it's overwhelmingly Democratic. That's the goal.
Business at DC restaurants and bars and the like has plummeted. To whatever degree crime is "down," if any, it's because people in MD and VA are literally too scared to come into DC, and those in DC are being terrified into staying home and off the streets as much as possible.
There would be no crime if we killed every American. I mean, are you saying you love crime? Why are you opposed to this, do you hate freedom?
