Just because there are not always obvious answers to legal questions (when is a killing in furtherance of an act of terrorism?), it doesn't mean the DA or the judge is incompetent, or that politics is involved. Applying the law to a set of facts can lead to opposing good-faith opinions.

I suggest reading the criminal statute & the court's Decision. The remaining 2nd degree murder charge requires Intent. But 1st degree murder requires Intent PLUS special circumstances (here, victim was killed in furtherance of an act of terrorism). www.nysenate.gov/legislation/...

Wealthy Trump abruptly cancelled a little over $1,000,000 a year for programs in a group of 8 states serving, collectively, more than 1,000 deafblind minors in those states. So that's approx $1,000 per deafblind student, per year, ripped away at the start of the school year, right? Amoral bastard.

How do you know this is an illegal tactic? Issuance and use of confidential license plates is legal in IL for "confidential, investigative, or undercover law enforcement operations". (Do ICE abductions qualify?) But there's a paper trial - DHS must accurately disclose intended use in applications.

The hippie motto "Don't trust anyone over 30" [years old] was created in 1964. Anyone over 90 yo today was *at least* 29 in 1964. Jack Weinberg, who coined the phrase, is only 85. Sorry, Stephen Miller, your math doesn't math.

How does one explain "completely blessing Defendants’ violation" these days?

B. Motion for Stay Pending Appeal As a threshold matter, the Court finds this request for a stay perplexing. The order remedying Defendants’ violation of the Preliminary Injunction is as flexible as possible, leaving the details of when, where, and how entirely in Defendants’ hands. See Dkt. 119 at 1–2 (“Each of the six individuals must be given a reasonable fear interview . . . DHS, in its discretion, may elect to provide this process to the six individuals either within the United States—should it choose to return them to the United States—or abroad.”). It is the narrow remedy Defendants requested.22 In short, there is very little to stay, absent completely blessing Defendants’ violation. Denial of 1st Am rights is a fed claim. He'll invoke George Anastaplo (UChi Law), denied admission to IL Bar during red scare. SCOTUS affirmed. George was a patriot and was right. Years later, IL tried to make amends by admitting him (he said no.) John will try to appropriate George's glory.

dared to speak in defense of causes and clients without regard to personal danger to themselves. The legal profession will lose much of its nobility and its glory if it is not constantly replenished with lawyers like these. To force the Bar to become a [Page 366 U. S. 116] group of thoroughly orthodox, time-serving, government-fearing individuals is to humiliate and degrade it. But that is the present trend not only in the legal profession, but in almost every walk of life. Too many men are being driven to become government-fearing and time-serving because the Government is being permitted to strike out at those who are fearless enough to think as they please and say what they think. [Footnote 2/15] This trend must be halted if we are to keep faith with the Founders of our Nation and pass on to future generations of Americans the great heritage of freedom which they sacrificed so much to leave to us. The choice is clear to me. If we are to pass on that great heritage of freedom, we must return to the original language of the Bill of Rights. We must not be afraid to be free. If this is Mesa County Sheriff’s Office investigator Alexander Zwinck: Seems that at Colorado Mesa U, he majored in criminal justice, but failed at Lacrosse and then failed in his aspiration to become a lawyer.

Looks like the sheriff's deputy took a picture of the vehicle registration here with his own cell. (Strange how the black box shimmies here, strategically covering his fingers.) Did he post this image, with the car details, to ICE on Signal? And the family's car was impounded and is still missing?

Video from body-worn camera during the 1st traffic stop. Inside the LEO vehicle, showing the steering wheel, some of the dashboard, and LEO's hands holding a cell phone horizontally over vehicle registration papers laying in his lap (earlier in the video he looked at those papers and placed them in his lap.) A black box redacts approx. 20% of the image, including part of his right hand and the cell phone.

The judge calls out Florida AG James Uthmeier as an inexperienced newbie whose hyperbolic, chest-thumping words can't be taken at face value - in an elegant footnote, of course. (And I'd bet Uthmeier thinks himself well qualified, but that Judge Williams is a DEI hire.)

fn 14 The Court recognizes Uthmeier may still be acclimating to the new and difficult role of attorney general, which he began two months prior to this case without the benefit of significant experience managing civil or criminal litigations. The Court gives Uthmeier the benefit of the doubt that his words were, as his Counsel said at the Show Cause Hearing, merely “puffery,” and that he did not intend to undermine the integrity of the Court or place law enforcement officers at risk of being held liable for committing constitutional violations.

It's not that straightforward. He warned her that, in essence, trigger-happy cops with guns drawn would be coming to the house. So it's possible, at least, she was fleeing with children for safety reasons and had no idea what he had planned or had done. Time will tell.

Tiberius Davis is arguing... Young Tiberius joined DOJ in April with very little litigation experience, and it shows. To be fair, he was hired on a Thursday and was set up to be benchslapped by Judge Hellerstein the following Tuesday, April 22. Sacrificial lamb?

May says someone else could have used his Wi-Fi At his arraignment, May’s lawyer suggested someone could have used the Wi-Fi password that was shown on a board behind a photo May’s wife may have posted online. Attorney Dayne Phillips also suggested investigators didn’t link each Kik message directly to May.

John Eastman update: Review Dept. affirms Judge Roland's ruling and finds disbarment "necessary." @carolnorris.bsky.social Finally!

Upon our independent review (Cal. Rules of Court, rule 9.12), we reject Eastman’s First Amendment defenses and his various due process claims. We find Eastman is culpable on all counts of misconduct, except count eleven. We further find Eastman’s conduct in counts five and seven was intentional. We affirm the hearing judge’s mitigation and aggravation findings, except we find less weight for Eastman’s absence of a prior record of discipline. The record does not support aggravation for significant harm as argued by OCTC. Due to the serious nature and extent of Eastman’s misconduct and the weight of aggravating circumstances in relation to mitigation, we recommend that Eastman be disbarred. Disbarment is necessary to protect the public, the courts, and the legal profession.
