Just because there are not always obvious answers to legal questions (when is a killing in furtherance of an act of terrorism?), it doesn't mean the DA or the judge is incompetent, or that politics is involved. Applying the law to a set of facts can lead to opposing good-faith opinions.

How do you know this is an illegal tactic? Issuance and use of confidential license plates is legal in IL for "confidential, investigative, or undercover law enforcement operations". (Do ICE abductions qualify?) But there's a paper trial - DHS must accurately disclose intended use in applications.

No, they wanted to avoid unambiguously defying the SCOTUS-blessed court order to return Abrego. They created a scenario to claim they (maliciously) complied with the order that would align with their precious narrative that these are vicious criminals.
Worse. This would PROVE Abrego’s indictment was DOJ corruption. The investigation and charges were the government’s reaction to the court order to return Abrego, after its own admitted error. It comes from Trump’s pathological response to being told what to do in the name of justice.
