it's sort of like... why am i learning conversational french in high school...? because then when you're older you can travel in french speaking countries with greater ease.
however it's more about building the muscle for understanding concepts deeply and at various levels, and that'll help you accomplish cool things in the future.
here's an example. linear algebra and matrices were really boring to me in college, but it turns out they're used all over the place for information retrieval, including LLM stuff, which is super interesting.
