Individual freedom is absolutely important. My point is about balance: the west treats freedom as individual choice, ignoring the health of community. Social cohesion doesn’t have to mean oppression; it can be strong networks, mutual support, shared responsibility & supported people.
Why is “freedom” always sold as the ultimate goal - a word used to sell tampons, trucks & tech. Westerners idolize individualism but what if we judged success by social cohesion, community care? Maybe real progress isn’t about buying more choices, but about building stronger communities.
