If I had a nickel every time a BookTok author advertised their YA fantasy novel on aesthetics after having allegedly worked on it for 10+ years and gain tons of traction only for it to turn out to be really bad, I’d have two nickels. Yadda yadda yadda, weird that it happened twice.
It’s also important to recognize that just because a book is popular, that doesn’t mean it’s good. Once upon a time, Divergent was popular. Now, nobody looks upon it with much favor. A bad popular book will be remembered for being bad. But a good book stays good even if nobody reads it.
Try not to get discouraged if your book doesn’t sell well right out the gate. Sometimes it really is a matter of luck. The important thing is to not let yourself think that your writing is worthless. Your work has value even if nobody sees it. #WriterSky #BookSky #WritingCommunity #IndieAuthor

Literally one of the most insane movies I’ve ever seen. I do not have the sufficient words to describe it. But it’s a fantastic work of horror. I can understand why the bidding war was so intense.
It kinda depends on how much you plan ahead. I personally try to plot out the major story beats first and then write to try and connect them. If you’re stuck, I’d say to take a step back and ruminate on it for a bit. Or trim the fat and focus on the most important bits.

Idk this likely doesn’t mean anything but it’s confirmed that Jax is a liar who’s afraid of being openly vulnerable and I don’t buy that the answer is as simple as him having trypophobia. It’s not out of the question that he’d lie about why he doesn’t like corn to hide his fear of abstraction.

I give the subgenre another 5-10 years before everyone’s fed up with it. And that might be a bit generous.
Now, people aren’t gonna stop writing this genre entirely. But fact is, romantasy is the current “big thing”, so people churn out books to cash in on it while it’s still hot, often at the expense of writing quality. Then the trend dies, something else takes its place, and the cycle repeats.
With paranormal romance, it was Twilight. With YA dystopia, it was Hunger Games. With romantasy, it’s ACOTAR. Everyone’s cashing in on the trend while lacking the originality and writing talent needed to make their books actually good. And what good books DO get written don’t really fix anything.
I’m not optimistic about the future of the romantasy subgenre. Odds are it’s gonna die the same way paranormal romance and YA dystopia died; over-saturation of derivative clones ripping off the same book without doing anything new with the ideas. (Mini 🧵) #WriterSky #BookSky #WritingCommunity

Honestly, the best of the World series, though the bar isn’t high. Set pieces and action were all pretty good. Characters are passable. First film in a while that really felt like a Jurassic film. Do wish it leaned more into body horror with the mutant designs though. Also Spinosaurus my beloved.

I generally prefer actual books just cause it’s what I’m used to and I think physical media is important, but yes. Audiobooks are totally valid. It doesn’t matter how you experience a story so long as you experience it at all. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a clown.
Vinnie is an absolute nervous wreck, largely due to his upbringing under his uncle Silvio. He’s extremely adverse to engaging in any amount of violence, even to save his own life, which is a serious problem seeing as he’s been roped into a mob conflict and was hired on his pedigree.
There’s no sadness like searching for a specific artist on BlueSky only to find out they don’t have an account. Or alternatively, they have an account but haven’t posted in seven months.
Trauma is an explanation. It’s not an excuse. Don’t treat it as such. I don’t care that your precious cinnamon roll wasn’t allowed to eat ice cream as a child. I care that they’re an actual evil fucking person who does evil shit. Their pain is not as important as what they do with it.
It infuriates me to no end when a piece of fiction has a character like this but the narrative bends over backwards to try and excuse their actions/behavior like “oooh nooo they’re just a smol bean 🥺🥺🥺 they have trauma 🥺🥺🥺 they’re just misunderstood🥺🥺🥺.”
Having a deeply flawed character who does awful things is fine. What ISN’T fine is making excuses for them/justifying their actions. If you’re gonna have a character with such severe flaws, you gotta hold them accountable. Or at least properly address them. #WriterSky #BookSky #WritingCommunity
Point is, you don’t want to be derivative. You don’t want to take an idea you like just because you like it and not bother putting in the effort to make it distinct from what you’re lifting it from. Otherwise your inspirations become, ironically, uninspired.
The key is not to simply copy these ideas, but to expand upon them. Experiment. Do things with them that no one else has tried. Make these ideas your own. If you inject enough originality into your story, your inspirations won’t be noticeable. And if they are, few will care.

I’m sure a few of them are good, but for the most part it feels like everyone’s trying to parrot Sarah J. Maas’ books (which already aren’t very good) for a quick buck and some BookTok publicity, which serves to inspire even more derivatives. The genre is in a constant state of autocannibalism.
Almost every single book has anemic worldbuilding and a borderline nonexistent plot all to make room for an (often) pretty bland main couple and copious levels of sex. There’s no “fantasy” in them. At least not the genre kind. It’s just a bunch of stitched-together sex scenes.
