Agree. But tribalism makes people see the choices as herpes/syphilis vs getting run over by a truck.

Such a dangerous path to go down. Impugning a race based on a statistic that is true based on the numbers leads to a lot of bad consequences. Is "The numbers show that xxx race/gender does zzz, and therefore the entire race/gender is responsible" a good message?
Justin Gallivan (@justingallivan.bsky.social)
I'm definitely not a Trump voter, but there's a recurring theme among them that the left makes them feel guilty about everything. This messaging, that it's "white voters", not just some of them doesn't help.

The funny thing is that this *should* be done and there are about a thousand cheaper and more productive ways of doing it than sending in the National Guard. If DJT wants to explore those, let him knock himself out.

Directionally, yes. Most everyone has a gay or lesbian relative/friend and are fine with it (see the support for gay marriage over time). As the list got longer (I A + ...) I think people A) didn't know what these things were; and B) meant shorthand for 'weird sex thing'. Using Queer added to that.

Democratic leadership is a bunch of eggheads who can't speak to normal people. They still believe they are the party of the working man. I mean I like Adam Schiff and he's a smart guy, but a lot of America likes carnival barkers so we get what we have with the modern republican party.

The thing is fundamentally social media is poison for the Democratic Party because left wing voices (center left as well here) are anxiety-stricken whiners who can't take a win or ever feel good so their content sucks.

There’s a terrible semantic mismatch between skeptics being overly dismissive and vendors being over zealous. LLMs help in my day-to-day work and help me (a PhD scientist) with brainstorming even if they aren’t intelligent per se. I hope the strident beliefs on both sides can be moderated.
Justin Gallivan (@justingallivan.bsky.social) reply parent
There’s this disconnect between thinking something represents AGI and something being useful. An LLM can be *incredibly* useful even if it isn’t “intelligent”.

It’s disorder and petty crime. Yes, homicides are down, but people associate homeless encampments, open air hard drug use, fare evaders, downtown ATV riders, and locked up merchandise at Target and CVS with crime. And no statistics are going to convince them when they see it every day.
