Theologically speaking, I think we pray for the courage to act and the judgment to act wisely. It's a both/and, not an either/or. Prayer grounds us in humility and gives us the courage to act.

This cracks me up. I don't know how much Colbert made at CBS, but when you consider how many shows he did a year, he's getting a BIGLY per-episode pay raise with this Netflix deal. I still wish he'd be hosting "The Late Show," but I'm glad he'll have other channels for his work.

I don't know a lot about our immigration system and clearly need to read up. It's shocking to me that someone has been waiting since 2018 for our government to decide on their status. Is this typical? It's unfair for people who are following the rules to be left in limbo this long.

What does he mean by "science"? He doesn't seem to respect the scientific process, the results of scientific inquiry or scientists themselves. What's left? He's a dangerous conspiracist who should be removed from his job as quickly as possible.
If you just watched the news and had no knowledge of US history, you'd assume that Congress was an elected group of TV pundits who had no actual power or governing responsibility.

Also: This is one of the ethical principles for the Public Relations Society of America. Healthy debate happens when we're up front about who we're representing. We sow distrust when people find out after the fact that someone was paid to share a POV that they presented as their own thinking.
I'd like all influencers, regardless of their politics, to be transparent about funding as it relates to the opinions they share. I agree they aren't journalists, but they're trying to influence others through their content. I think their audience deserves to know so they can factor it in.
This is fair. I'm thinking about transparency more from a journalism perspective than from a legal/campaign finance one. "Influencers" aren't really journalists. BUT....when people are following you for your opinions, I think you owe it to them to say if the opinions are being paid for.

I can't watch even a 15-second clip of these Cabinet meetings. As someone who has managed teams, I can't imagine allowing--let alone wanting--team members to behave this way. A leader is there to serve and guide a team toward collective goals and growth. Being worshipped isn't part of the job.

He spoke, however, within a framework of seeing every person as one of inherent dignity and worth who was made in the image of God and who is loved by God. Jesus was not advocating a political viewpoint in terms of who has power in a society. He was asking us to love people as God does.
I interpret this differently. I absolutely think we make our voting decisions in light of our beliefs and, if applicable, faith. I'm saying that Jesus wasn't crucified to resist fascism. Jesus spoke more about serving the poor than almost any topic. 1/2
People on the far left AND right insist on seeing Jesus as a political figure, which was a role people of his day hoped he'd play as well. Jesus firmly rejected that role and stayed focused on his mission of grace and salvation.
This is counter to what Jesus said. He wasn't here to become a political leader or resist Rome. He intentionally did not defend himself and rebuked Peter when he drew his sword to defend Jesus. Christ had a different mission. WE should resist fascism, but Jesus died for another purpose.

Something about Vance and many of the tech billionaires who've support him: They're smart, but they have limited intellectual curiosity. They haven't thought or read much about the world beyond a small set of topics. It doesn't seem to occur to them that expanding their knowledge would be valuable.
And I really mean that we need both. It's ridiculous to ask people to learn a whole new language to understand what you're trying to say. The burden should be on the speaker or writer to communicate in a way people can understand. It's also important to have something substantive to offer.
Bill Clinton also knew policy. He could talk to people plainly because he understood the issues so well that he could think of analogies and clear ways of explaining. Some of the "plain talkers" now don't have the policy knowledge. They're confusing "straight talk" with "no substance." We need both.
