I'm saying Dems don't have a massive messaging machine to prop them up every day of the week. I don't believe they can win a messaging war over a shutdown. They will be forced to reopen the government in no better position than before. Rs didn't gain leverage over Obama through shutdowns.

Both options are bad for Ds. I'm not saying they should give Trump what he wants but I don't believe they will get any real concessions from a shutdown. It will be a mess with the right-wing noise machine telling tens of millions of people it's Democrats' fault. And mainstream media "both sides"

They aren't running the government because of shutdowns. They are running the government because a massive right-wing communications infrastructure has been pushing their talking points on people 365 days a year for many years. The shutdowns hurt their popularity and they gained no real concessions.

I think the idea is that Trump/Republicans will blame Dems for people not getting their Social Security checks, veterans benefits etc on time. Once the government is shut down how do they force Republicans to make concessions? That never worked for the GOP in past shutdowns.

The mental fitness of elderly Presidents has been such an important issue for the media lately, so I expect wall-to-wall coverage of how President Trump has once again thrown a fit about one of his own signature policies, showing no awareness of how it arose or who executed it.

@realDonaldTrump It is very important that the Drug Companies justify the success of their various Covid Drugs. Many people think they are a miracle that saved Millions of lives. Others disagree! With CDC being ripped apart over this question, I want the answer, and I want it NOW. I have been shown information from Pfizer, and others, that is extraordinary, but they never seem to show those results to the public. Why not??? They go off to the next “hunt” and let everyone rip themselves apart, including Bobby Kennedy Jr. and CDC, trying to figure out the success or failure of the Drug Companies Covid work. They show me GREAT numbers and results, but they don’t seem to be showing them to many others. I want them to show them NOW, to CDC and the public, and clear up this MESS, one way or the other!!! I hope OPERATION WARP SPEED was as “BRILLIANT” as many say it was. If not, we all want to know about it, and why??? Thank you for your attention to this very important matter! President DJT 181 ReTruths 573 Likes Sep 01, 2025, 8:15 AM President Donald Trump is outraged that Americans are footing an unfair financial burden, citing a 2020 trade deal called the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement that he signed. The president claimed during a White House press conference Monday that the impacts of the USMCA will be alleviated with a 25% tariff on all Canadian and Mexican goods starting next week, and unwittingly criticized himself after rebuking America’s neighbors. “I mean, who can blame them if they made these great deals with the United States, took advantage of the United States on manufacturing?” Trump said Monday. “On just about anything, every aspect you can imagine, they took advantage.”

The math is very difficult. Democrats need sky-high Dem turnout and lower GOP turnout than we've seen in any Iowa midterm in many years. And more GOP crossover votes than usual and a clear majority of independents. Not impossible, just hard. This is not a toss-up race like 2020 seemed to be.

No-party turnout crashes in midterm years. Even if the Dem nominee gets 60 or 65% of the independent vote (unlikely), it isn't enough to make up for the huge advantage Republicans have with base turnout.

He'll likely try this, but I think the real danger comes after the 2026 midterms. Sure, they'll try to sway them with gerrymandering and "emergencies" that shut down polling places in key Democratic areas. But if Dems make real gains the current GOP majority can cry fraud and refuse to seat them.
