Well, I'd kind of like to imaging some day, those that do survive will solve all the problems, conquer the stars and spread to distant worlds yet unseen, but yes, I don't particularly care what race. We are all human.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
The problems that exist don't have quick solutions, but yes, taxing billionaires a lot more has to be part of it. There are so many parts to it. Still, that is an excellent start.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd argue, I guess three things are the greatest threats to our civilization. 1. The lies. Garbage in. Garbage out. 2. Most are out for themselves. A lot of work is bad, duplicative, or inefficient because profit before all. 3. More people are not trained to resist faulty arguments

That all being said, I think Mandami is part of the team. We should support him.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
The mission for the democratic party is not just to win. The mission for the democratic party is to save our democracy, and to do that we must win. We know the price of failure now. We really need to focus, without fail, on winning first and foremost and make sure we support each other in this time.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
The left here, by all accounts, is the center or maybe even the right of center other places. Some of this is just an allergy to a word, but we elect people not words. We need to stop playing politics using the rules Rs wish us to use.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Could be. Seems as plausible as any Trump action.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
That is my guess as well, though it could be a grift, or some other performative stunt or fascist EO. The only thing I'm semi certain about is trump will never announce that he is stepping down for health.

Attached garages, at least where I live, have to slope to daylight to get leaked gas mostly outside. Eventually if we go all EVs that requirement will likely go away.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
My concern would be more the batteries, not that we see a current problem, but eventually you will get more people that are repairing battery packs and taking shortcuts. Of course, any car repair can turn dangerous, so this is not actually new.

lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
For America to have a bright future we must care more for it, and less for ourselves. The original JFK once said, "Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country." We need that, not this fraud that is Jr.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
The fragmentation in the republic was caused by a lot of the mostly republican effort and it has worked, in that they have gotten power, money, all the oligarchs truly wanted, well everything perhaps but the future we dreamed of. That gets farther away. We need actual patriotism.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
The end result of course is a republic fraying. This CDC mess will kill many, and countless more in the future. The Republican party has built so much on lies, that the structure itself seems unstable, while the Democratic party seems unable to rise to the occasion, to find the message that unites.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Whether they believe the ends justify the means or whether they simply lack even the smallest stirrings of patriotism, I do not know. It seems as likely as any that they got high on their own supply, and the dark forces they unleashed that gave them power has corrupted their purpose.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Mencken wrote, "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong." America is a place where people of no morals can make use of those who don't practice any kind of intellectual rigor. It has become beneficial for the republican party to cultivate ignorance.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump would say they don't respect us. Before he would have been wrong, but it is clear now that he has changed that false statement into a true one. Happy Labor Day everyone.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
You know. I read that in a hurry, well skimmed, and thought well that's Trump. I was just skimming cadence and such, then I actually read the content. It must so annoy Trump that someone can copy him so well. As far as I'm concerned we should _never_ stop mocking Trump.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
I think in the end, we have to stand up for the majority, focusing on winning their votes, while protecting the rights of the minority. We need a party of patriots that is truly working for America as a whole. That seems the key. Patriots sacrifice for their country, not demand everything now.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
You have been right for a long time, and I'm sure you are correct here. The problem is, it works. We are quite easy to divide. Some will withhold support from the Democratic party, because they don't get everything they want, while others will if by some chance you do. Everybody wants it now.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump's taste is horrible. Here is a building I found on the internet some time ago. It is an old Methodist church in Gary Indiana. That thing must have been truly impressive in its prime. It is falling apart now. sometimes-interesting.com/wp-content/u...

I think Nixon was the beginning of this path. People became determined to never have that happen again and succeeded, though it is worth noting that the tendency for the wealthy to always want more, and to manipulate their way there would have occurred regardless.

I think the fact that we are ignoring things that work, such as solar and vaccines for politics, is not a promising sign...
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump is a good example why I'm still a little wary on nuclear, even though you can clearly make safe plants. Basically, there is always a bigger idiot, and he might be put in charge. I agree with should be going all out with solar and wind...
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Good.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
No, people allowed this. Sure the propaganda was a part, but there is no exception to our civic duty to vote in the best choices we can, regardless of the difficulties. I do agree about the spine bit though. That is necessary.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Basically, it seems another attempt to sow division. Democrats aren't perfect, but the biggest reason most people don't have a lot of the Democratic wish list items is people keep electing republicans, or don't elect enough democrats.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump should have to answer this question, because it is a very good question. I can't honestly think of a Trump policy goal, beyond being so awful no one wants to be here that this serves, and even then the possible blow back is huge. Maybe it's another attempt to distract from the Epstein files?
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Agreed. People need to have realistic expectations of people. People become public servants either to serve the public or serve themselves. People often try to drag others down that doesn't fit all their expectations. Too many good people don't enter politics these days.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Agreed. We know it is possible because they do it around the world. The only thing to avoid is mag lev. Let someone else avoid that costly mess, until the tech is mature. Trains, particularly electrified trains have to be the single cheapest form of bulk transport.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
The rest I agree with. It is, however, not going anywhere. I do hate how it hoovers up everything without ever paying for even one copy of each book, or resource, or giving back in any way.

It is not useless. It is not what people think it is. I think we will see a sort of soft crash at some point, where people get disillusioned. Even if you do build an application quicker, the AI had no real understanding. There will be problems.

I worry that we will get a nomination and then some group, I don't know which, will not find him or her good enough and this will never end, because we sabotage our own chances.

150kW, that is the number I'm seeing. Six would be six times that. A lot of homes probably don't use more than 5kW on average. I'm not saying you can't build infrastructure that will handle those numbers, but those are big numbers.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
This cannot be highlighted enough. Trump did not seek any actual proof of his innocence. He covered up proof of his involvement via one thousand FBI agents, and then traded a move to a cushy prison to one of the perpetrators so she lied for him.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
That way, when you are running out of charge, you could possibly just pick up a new vehicle, and let the current one charge at a sane pace.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
I think they pretty much have to. Batteries might reduce the instantaneous draw on the grid, and maybe you can get enough so that the batteries last. I still think most charging needs to be overnight. Then again I think someday we will just order cars to our houses when we need them.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Okay assume 100kWh per car. Assuming you charge 40 of that on average. Assume a panel produces 4-5kWh per day, so you need at least ten, plus the batteries to charge one car. Now assume say 500 cars a day (Modern gas is about 1000). That is around 5000 solar panels if my math is correct..

In percentages that is 37, 12, and 5.5% of the total global, or over half of all spending on defense in those three countries. Now I know Trump has motivated some to spend more, but if over half of the offensive ability in the world is controlled by non democracies, we are in serious trouble.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
So many people don't seem to understand how serious this all is. They are flat out trying to end democracy, forever, and are making credible progress. In 2024 the US spent 997 billion on defense. China spent 314 billion. Russia spent 149 billion.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Let me rephrase that. The attainable voters want crap done that helps them, and probably don't care about left or right that much, or even the environment, though they should. They just see their bank accounts and how hard it is to keep afloat and vote against those in power.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
No, I'd still say we are crap at messaging. I'll agree that the message is also a problem. The Democratic party is the centrist party, but I think the attainable voters are to the left. I'll also note that a lot of the lefts goals we'd have had now, if we stopped losing elections.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd argue that Biden _was_ going in the right direction with Ukraine, energy, the environment, Chips, etc, but that Democrats are crap at selling anything. I'd also argue it wasn't enough. (We didn't have enough in congress.)

I'd bet a lot of people didn't. There was a massive amount of push back against her at exactly the wrong time. That is probably partly why Trump won. We need to be on the same side. I'm seeing more nonsense about Gavin. If he is the candidate, then once the primary is done, we need to be all in.

lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
But we can't chase 1% of votes and let what thirty percent just stay home. We need to go where the votes are, and help the people, and that is going to make the oligarchs mad, since they are going to have to pay their fair share, but that is also math.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
The time for trying to get along with the republican party is gone, and will never return. We need to accept that and stop wasting our time on them. Yes, we can accept former republicans. We have more in common after all, with, well, anyone that respects democracy and rule of law.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
Basically Trump lied like hell and promised he would make everything better by the power of BS, like some damn cartoon character, who likely didn't get a second season. We need to make it clear that we _are_ going to make things better, and not let bureaucracy stop us.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm not a fan of blaming the democratic party. The choice was stark and terrible for anyone with a functioning brain and minor effort. Unfortunately, this is likely right. We need to focus on those not in the cult. The focus needs to be a lot more left. The difference must be equally stark.
lerris.bsky.social (@lerris.bsky.social) reply parent

Trump is not saying this out of any real interest at fairness. Still I'd go for in person only voting for most, if we had rides to polling places, two weeks voting, etc. Simple paper ballots with fill in the ovals are honestly a good solution. They are dead simple, and easy to validate.
