…And, if it turns out a teacher is unable to resolve to uphold the broad agreement made with the community, then the district has a right to remove the teacher as their representative. Making sure that is not abused by the community and district is why teachers unions are vital.
Alexis Howell-Kubler (@lexh-k.bsky.social) reply parent
Public schools have standards that list what the schools are aspiring to provide to the students who attend. These are agreed to by districts and represent an agreement with their community. A teacher varying wildly from those standards should be asked to explain themselves to their administrators.

I never quite understood the absolute fury about a vaccine that made the chances of dying so much lower, because it didn’t eliminate all of the illness. People being so infuriated that they did not get the “one and done” solution they are so certain they are entitled to have.
Alexis Howell-Kubler (@lexh-k.bsky.social) reply parent
I’ve seen them claim it was improved hygiene and public utilities, instead of vaccines, that reduced death rates. As though following the public health science for those things, but rejecting it for vaccines, is somehow legitimate.

The actual study mentioned was observing differences in memory based on use of hormones and different emotion processing techniques in a group if fewer than 200 women. That’s what they built from to get to some sort of potential broad political impact.

Age cohorts are part of analyzing population statistics. Getting upset at the reported trends across different age groups is useless. Dismissing trends because there are individuals who fall outside the averages is absurd.

I applaud the effort. I am not willing to go down the rabbit hole myself today. However, what if one queries as “how much job growth under each party’s administrations since… 1965? 1985? 2000?”

If you're 60, 69.1% of all job growth since your birth occurred under Democratic administrations. If you're 45, that number is 74.7%. If you're under 28, the number is 100%. Happy Labor Day.

The personal denials are exactly the same as “not all men…” responses regarding misogyny discussions, or “not all whites” regarding racism. Look at the data, discuss the trends, and don’t take age cohorts having been named as generations as a personal attack on any individual.

All the folks arguing this can’t be true because some boomers are struggling financially while some young people are well off… sit down! By now, anyone old enough to be getting personally offended here should understand the difference between analyzing demographics and personal anecdotes. 1/2

In order to analyze economic realities for everyone, it is reasonable to consider demographics, including age cohorts. Ignoring data analysis so we don’t hurt people’s feelings about worrying if they feel blamed won’t help actually know what is happening on the scale that drive policies.

The observation that an age cohort is statistically unlikely to have good chances at doing better than their parents ahead of cohort began with Gen X. That is not any divisive blame, just reading the data. Media has been ignoring Gen X since the millennial became old enough to gather data about.
