It's very obvious who among the Dems has the capacity to full-on oppose Shitler et al, and equally obvious that they are the people Dem leaders will throw under the bus to appease their imaginary focus group of people just like themselves.
For this to happen we need total replacement of Dem leadership with electeds who actually reflect the needs of their communities, not the interests of tech & finance.

Here's what we all need to grock about the Dems: If they wanted to adopt this highly effective message, they would. Dems are not uniquely terrible at communications. They are telling us who they are all the time.
Meanwhile, Biden refused to meet with Rev Barber and the TX state legislators who had fled the state to interrupt passage of further voter suppression laws in TX. It was a bipartisan effort.

I have a new theory, and the word "replacement" features prominently.
Paragraph one is boilerplate they keep around for any time they might be forced to issue a press release about Rudy's hijinks. "On ___, 20__, Rudy saved a woman in peril. After that, he...."
In short, don't vote the square-jawed, Trump-trolling governor in thrall to tech & private equity bros, unless the end of human employment excites you.

The communications consultant in me is 90% sure this first paragraph is boilerplate that Team Rudy keeps around to precede anything else they might be forced to report about him. "On the evening of ___, 202_, Rudy heroically saved a woman from abuse. Later that night he ....."
Is that first paragraph the boilerplate his people keep on hand to precede any developments in Rudy World?
Along with his abuse of trans and unhoused people, there's the simple fact that he acts like his inner circle is composed entirely of Peter Thiel wannabes. So he would preside over the permanent end of, y'know. Human employment as we know it.

The minute that congressman yelled "you lie!" during Obama's SOTU, it was clear that civility & bipartisanship had only ever existed for white men. The Dems spent his entire two terms training themselves to ignore and deny white supremacy as THE engine of American politics, and here we are.

I fear they never will. A party still elevating Axelrod & Carville while actively fighting its young progressives of color isn't exactly a wellspring of hope. My sense is they will lose elections before disrupting the US's racial & economic balance of power.

Extreme voter disenfranchisement in the former Confederate states since 2013's Shelby ruling should have been a national scandal. Instead, Dems allowed white liberals to dismiss "red" states as home to irredeemable goobers who deserve death by flooding. On 2nd thought, ignore the word "former."
I'd expect nothing less from a party that enthusiastically acquiesced to the systemic disenfranchisement of its own voters in the so-called red states, which map to the former Confederacy w/stunning precision. A party so reflexively racist that it's passive on voter suppression.

That goes without saying. But the scholarship on authoritarianism suggests that an unpopular leader is less able to impose his will than a popular one. Especially if his political allies intensely dislike him, which I also have heard about Vance.
It feels like an unpopular authoritarian will be less effective at imposing fascism than one who's popular with both tech/finance bros and civilian right wingers.
Isn't it also the case that Vance has no cult of personality around him? Hard to imagine voters rushing to the polls for him, and actively deluding themselves about his behaviors and beliefs.
OMFG if you find lying to the authorities objectionable, you are well on your way to complicity with fascism.
A related undiscussed issue is that millions of us are grieving a stolen future that we spent our lives trying to build as activists, advocates, community members, donors, and professionals. We don't even know we're grieving till we say it out loud.
I bristle when white liberals advocate secession, because they've been encouraged by their party to dismiss the South/"red" states as full of irredeemable goobers, not disenfranchised people of color and other marginalized communities. But the need to preserve the rule of law somewhere (!) is urgent

Yeah... we're "different" as in we're the queer people, immigrants, people of color, and disabled folks whom those voters literally want dead. This isn't about values, it's about survival.
"Civility" was never intended for us. Neither was "fair play." These concepts only ever governed how white men interacted with one another. The minute women, people of color, and queer people entered the discourse, lies and abuse became the norm. "You lie!" yelled at Obama = moment of no return.
Yeah, let's all cheer about the suffering of disenfranchised youth, poor people, and people of color living in states that have been authoritarian regimes for a good decade now. And if you say "they should all move," I'll say you lack a fundamental understanding of economic and social realities.

I find it enraging that Dem leadership has convinced white coastal liberals that the "red" states are full of irredeemable goobers, abandoned millions of voters to uncontested races, voter suppression, and gerrymandering. Even the GA Senate victories didn't shift the narrative.
Is the national party finally putting resources into the so-called red states, or are these candidates just dragging the party to the finish line on their backs?
Civil war requires two sides, so all those excited people need to explain to me who the armed opposition might be in this putative clash.
Problem is, they do it for free too. Defending horrible men seems to be the norm for cis het women.

Liberals, innately attached to the racial & economic status quo, will never bring down fascism. Therein lies our challenge.
That's not it at all. We simply disagree on whether collapse into fascism was inevitable given who holds power in America, and whether it can be stemmed without changing that equation.
Dems who are unwilling to embrace structural change are in effect supporting the status quo distribution of power. And that distribution of power is why we're here. Surely you don't imagine a band of heroic rich white guys will defeat the network of extreme wealth that put Shitler in power.
Sure. I assume you're aware that fascism was originally called "corporatism," because the vision was business and the state partnering to control workers and favor the interests of wealth.
Dems unwilling to confront private equity and tech are, by definition, unwilling to fight our collapse into fascism.
The fucking Democratic Party monopolizes infrastructure by persuading well-intentioned white liberals that it's on the right side of history, while playing eternal footsy with private equity, law enforcement, and every source of inequality active in America.
It's pretty static in the sense that Newsom and Jeffries are roughly equal in terms of their craving for approval from tech bros and bankers. I don't see any possibility of Dem leadership that would support changing the economic and racial balance of power - hope I'm wrong.
And equally obvious what side Dem leadership will be on. Not ours.

The way the Dems have framed the south as an evil place to sneer at literally has led to the end of democracy. That's how white supremacy really took us down: Not by our enemies, who are inevitable & ever-present, but by white liberals to whom Black, brown & queer Southerners are invisible.
These people are working so hard to not know we live under mounting authoritarianism, with a capital city under martial law.
For me it's the lack of press coverage, and the total adoption of the regime's framing when coverage does occur. World leaders met in a capital city *under martial law* and no one said boo.
I did. I remain curious about how you're defining war, given the lack of an opposing side. Do you think that in some cities, local law enforcement will resist the feds? Or that armed civilians will clash with feds?
They're reverse-engineering rationales for martial law in every city led by people of color. A random crime occurred in Boston yesterday, and the FB comments were all "this is Michelle Wu's idea of a safe city!" I have to admit the media silence & complicity is worse than I expected.
The Dems are ignoring it, and the media. Setting aside how aligned most police & DAs are with the goons, they sure won't be activated to oppose it when all our institutions are signaling it's not a problem. Maybe it's only martial law when white folks get swept up.

I also wish they understood that many "red" states are actually voter-purged and gerrymandered states, and if the Dems wanted an empowered Black vote and youth vote, they'd have fought for those voters instead of abandoning them.
