I am in MD. Our July-Aug electric bill, with essentially same kWh as 2024, is up 25%. My energy lawyer pal explained to me why and how it’s not ending soon. Hope your state has assistance in place for folks to stay warm.

Increased capacity prices should result in market signals to build generation. It takes awhile to build generation so there is a gap. Now, add Trump’s anti wind and anti solar views and you can see that we are in a bit of a pickle. Prices will remain high for awhile.
From my energy lawyer pal: Capacity prices in the PJM (midatlantic) market increased substantially. Wright ordered two large fossil fuel plants that were set to retire to remain on line. Both resulted in in significant price increases.
