Star Wars went from being the product of one maniac to a corporate-managed catch-all brand literally overnight, while Star Trek had a weird 20-year transitional period between the death of Roddenberry and Abramsâ reboot where Paramount was at least trying to ape what Roddenberry did.
Skimmed through it out of curiosity because I'm whatever on Plinkett these days, and he's surprisingly positive on The Acolyte and thinks the next generation will view it with warmer eyes. His weird gripes on the movies are still the same though.

Secret History of Star Wars book is so damn fascinating, the common narrative of how Star Wars was thought up/created is almost entirely wrong/edited by Lucas after the fact to make it seem like he the broad strokes of the movie franchise planned out from the beginning (he didnât!!!)
The Secret History of Star Wars by Michael Kaminski illustrates this little open secret. It meticulously documents the history of drafts George Lucas struggled to write. Even then, the final edit can be considered a final draft.

I am enjoying The Secret History of Star Wars even though it's not all new to me. All I can say is there is a lot of "why can't Star War be planned like the original trilogy" fans who need to be sat down and forced to read this book to penetrate their extreme delusion.
It is very childish of me but I had a very clear picture as a child of what the Clone Wars were and how they worked and I am still kinda grumpy at 40 that the reality was "what if we cloned one guy a lot?"

I rewatched ANH on Sunday and it's kinda wild how much stuff there is in there where the intent in just the movie seems obviously very different from how canon ended up evolving
there's a ton of stuff that sets up moments the prequels do not deliver, "Darth Vader" seems to be the guy's actual name, the politics are much more central than they are even later in the OT, it is open in a way modern star wars kinda isn't (though in part that's inevitable)
