Racism is protected speech so the police are required by law both to protect them and not to intervene - no matter the administration. They were doing this in the 90s under Bill Clinton and under Obama too.

People who have not spent time in the upper midwest expect that when someone says "fuck you" the words "fuck" and "you" will come out of their mouth. Some part of this dude realizes it (look at his strained smile), but New Yorkers are not used to being put off balance like that.
Max Spaeth (@mcmsp.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't see anything inconsistent with that. He's literally saying "maybe a little bit of gentrification is good" and "maybe we just make it 'safer' and 'more convenient'" In the context of a passive aggressive Minnesotan this translates in native New Yorker to "fuck that and fuck you."

If the Russians move away from Trump based on this, it will create an opening for Zelensky. I think that he would be wise to make a congratulatory statement. If the Iranian regime is knocked out - especially Khamenei, we get a ton of operating room in the Middle East.
Max Spaeth (@mcmsp.bsky.social) reply parent
The best part was when Tulsi and Vance came out strongly against it and Trump blew right past them - Trump is clearly not 100% a Russian asset even though most of his team is. We'll see how the Russians adapt their U.S. influence program as a result. The U.S. remains a strong country don't forget it
Max Spaeth (@mcmsp.bsky.social) reply parent
We circumscribed our own capabilities out of caution for a long time but world war 3 has already started - hitting hard early is the correct move. That Moscow is not yet burning is an embarrassment, but this is a step in the right direction. The biggest drawback is what China can learn from this
Max Spaeth (@mcmsp.bsky.social)
It was a good call bombing Iran. It would have been better if it was a surprise, hopefully they didn't get too much out of the facilities beforehand but the Israelis probably had a good sense of when to do it. There's no reason to reactively hate this action just because the president sucks.
Max Spaeth (@mcmsp.bsky.social) reply parent
Vance is trying to slow walk it but anything that Medvedev, Gabbard, Vance, Michael Tracey, Charlie Kirk, and all the other pro-Russian propaganda people speak out extremely loudly in unison against deserves a second look. This is a false choice - if Kellogg goes there's going to be a lot more room to cut off arms completely. He's playing defense. Stop expecting him to score points.
Max Spaeth (@mcmsp.bsky.social) reply parent
Also I know sanctions help but if Kellogg is going to spend political capital I want him focused on keeping JD Vance from cutting off all artillery shells etc., not burning his ass on some watery anti oil bill that will get evaded anyway. Congress can push there since they have no say on weapons.
Max Spaeth (@mcmsp.bsky.social) reply parent
It is useful to have someone proposing a "middle ground" that sucks but isn't just JD Vance and traitor Gabbard and Witless Witkoff saying Ukraine should give up Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Zap and "we'll see from there". It's a thankless job, but this is the position we have put him in.
Max Spaeth (@mcmsp.bsky.social) reply parent
No because he'd just get fired, that will have to be the congress republicans - which will not work very well, but that's whose going to have to try to do it
Max Spaeth (@mcmsp.bsky.social) reply parent
No de jure recognition of territory, nothing about promising no NATO troops in certain countries, no giving up additional territory, no limiting the size of the Ukrainian army. If we had voted better this would not be the case, but we voted bad and he's doing his best with that.
Max Spaeth (@mcmsp.bsky.social) reply parent
He's actually pushing for as much as possible for Ukraine in the context of the administration he serves - there's a reason the Russians threw a fit and demanded to talk to Witkoff instead. It would feel better to say "we bomb Russia" but he would get fired. Homeboy is doing practical work.
