The founder's Uncle Hershel was added in 1977 and went through a few adjustments over the years. I'm honestly not sure why they didn't stya with the 2024 design which basically just removed Herschel and his barrel. But FFS it's just a damn logo.

The very definition of a party is "the people who vote for the party in every election." If they're not voting, or not voting for the party, they are not the base.
