Heathrow will be confident a Reform Govt will roll back all action on climate, if they get in. Still a big if. Although in reality almost nothing has been done by Governments of other stripes, to curtail the climate impact of aviation. Heathrow just want its cake and to eat it.
Miles King (@milesking.bsky.social) reply parent
No doubt Reform will find some way to blame them. Even though they don't believe in the climate emergency.

They had a shadow chancellor, Anneliese Dodds, who was having those conversations about root and branch tax reform. Starmer sacked her and installed Rachel Reeves. IMO Dodds would have been a much better chancellor.

For the Summer over all, mean Temp was 18.6°C, just a shade cooler than 2022 (18.7°C), with rainfall at 176.5mm compared with 51mm for 2022. Again the total is very skewed by those 4 days at the end of August. Interestingly (for me anyway) at no point did we breach 30°C, unlike 2020, 21 & 22. 4/4
Miles King (@milesking.bsky.social) reply parent
83.5mm rain fell in August, with 81mm falling in 4 days 27-30th. Wettest day was 28th, when 61.2mm fell in a tropical downpour in the early morning. 40mm fell in 1.5 hours (see graph - green is mm/hr). Otherwise it was a very dry August with 20 dry days (same as 2022), with 6 days of <1mm rain. 3/4
Miles King (@milesking.bsky.social) reply parent
Nights were warm (mean minimum 13.8°C) with a minimum dropping below 10°C only once - 9.2°C on the 22nd. Warmest night a sticky 18.2°C on the 15th. A very warm & dry spell (0.2mm rain) from 11th-17th saw maximums of 28.1, 29.4, 21.6 (but only dropping to 18.2 at night), 25.8, 27.5, 24.7, 24.5°C. 2/4
Miles King (@milesking.bsky.social)
Happy September! Weather stats for Dorchester. August was notably dry & warm until the last 5 days. Mean Temperature up to the 20th was 19°C, but a cooler end to the month saw the Mean drop to 18.3°C, with the hottest day the 12th at 29.4C. Only one day (30th) failed to reach 20°C, at 19.4°C. 1/4

The problem here goes beyond Labour's humiliating pandering to the far right that we've seen in relation to Asylum Seekers, and immigration more broadly. The Home Office is institutionally racist, regardless of who is in Government. This was probably an old HO proposal gathering dust, until now...

Miles King (@milesking.bsky.social) reply parent
and if you're really lucky you get a Spitfire flying over your head, from nearby Compton Abbas airfield. Come to think of it, the grass airstrips of the chalk, and their role in the evolution of aviation, would make a nice story. Tragically the Old Sarum WW1 hangars burnt down recently - arson.

There's only one Taylor Swift, whereas 65 million US households own a dog. A dog fed on wet food emits ~ 6.5 Tonnes CO2e/year, while one only fed dry food comes in at 0.83 Tonnes/yr. So US pet dogs emit between 54M & 423M Tonnes of C02e/ yr. Globally, private jets emitted 15.6MTCO2e in 2023.
