Haven't watched it yet (doing a s1 refresher) but hair goes gray/ white in weird places. My chin and eyebrows (and destinations further south) went gray waaaaay b4 any head hair did. Might be that?

No worries! It's right on the border - Duluth,MN only geographically separated by a bridge from Superior.

Superior is in Wisconsin, not Minnesota. Sorry, I live in MN right across the border from superior, so, y'know.

Which is to say, other than the people employed at the prison it's not "vital" to Duluth.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Duluth is not built on the prison jobs, thank goodness. (Tourism, shipping, healthcare I think are the top 3 industries, but don't quote me, I just live here!) It's a nice place, mostly.

Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
For that matter, if you don't think the dems of today have moved right, I can't help you. On every issue, no. A general rightward trend, fucking absolutely.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Hey, guess what? On that issue, I don't happen to agree with 'em. But if you wanna pretend that there's nothing good in that platform, you're a fool. But we don't wanna find any common ground with *gasp* commies, do we. Also, if they can't make the press give a shit, why don't they do SOMETHING ELSE
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh yes, the statements and strongly worded letters. Whew, I feel better.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, Trump voters elected him, correct. So your opinion is that party leadership did nothing wrong, and it's voters fault they didn't win? That's certainly a take...
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
I just want the dems to work together. We need to look at ALL the failures, figure out where we can agree and start paying attention to what people are saying. If (as alleged) the leftists can tank an election, do you think yelling at them will help?
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Didn't say we can't have a conversation, but if your starting point is "It's all your fault" to those who have least control of the party, but constantly support the same leaders who don't listen to the WHOLE party (not cave to, I just mean sincerely LISTEN), we're lost. I want strong resistance.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Agree with that - I just hate the constant vilification of leftists, and apologia for leadership when we're supposed to be working together.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
It's a lil weird for me to be arguing this, cause we're on the same side. I'm not even one of the leftists in question (though further left than average in the party) and I'm tired of blaming the least powerful people in the party instead of holding the failed leaders' feet to the fire.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
100%. So let's work on actually building the 'Big Tent' and not infight? It is going to be harder for us than repubs, cause as a party we are supposed to represent a diverse group. But let's look to what needs to change to make it ACTUALLY inclusive.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm mostly disappointed by ANYONE saying that this whole mess is one subgroups fault. ALL OF US could have done more. Leadership, with more power, has more responsibility (to paraphrase Uncle Ben) but they're not willing to admit any mistakes.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
I just think that the Democratic leadership should do a little introspection, maybe do something that is better than the lesser of two evils. How hard would it be to condemn genocide? Endorse a member of their party? NOT vote for t appointments?
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Obviously not equivalent, and that ain't what I'm saying. Just pointing out that if the party doesn't notice leftists except to blame them, how do you build any enthusiasm from the left? Look at NYC - popular leftist wins nomination, and then leadership did what? smears at worst, silence at best.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Aw, sad little fascist enabler blocked me, lol.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
I did vote for Kamala, though not enthusiastically. If you can't understand why some leftists are disillusioned with the party that only notices them to blame them, I don't know what to tell you. I'm also pissed at the dem leaders, clearly unable to meet the moment or of the slightest introspection.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social)
Anyone else get super irritated when work folks Slack msg you and just drop "Hello" and nothing else? I know you're going to ask me for something, so just DO IT. I've instituted a 10 minute minimum response time to anyone that does it. Which is petty and meaningless, but I still enjoy.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Pick a lane. You want leftists to vote with dems or not? If you'd rather leftists LEAVE the party than try to IMPROVE the party, just say so. Not like there's support for leftist policies, right? Sure makes you sound like a fascist collaborator, but you do you, boo boo.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Don't forget they DID send strongly worded letters.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
You don't think that voting FOR a nominee is an endorsement of them? And if it does nothing, then they could have voted against them, and have some fucking integrity.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
So they should roll over and vote for them?
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
69 is odd, Jonathan. Are you opposed to 69?

This person is either disingenuous or delusional. Or, I suppose, too young to know of what they speak.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Okay, so just for fun. Tell me what you think a leftist should do.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
I guess it is hard to hear well with your head up your ass. If you think people on the LEFT are collaborating with NAZIS, then you clearly want the party to shift right. Again. How's that working out.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Wouldn't you rather have leftists as PART of the party, and maybe, just MAYBE, listen for once instead of hur dur vote blue.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, gosh, how come leftists, who leadership constantly vilifies, didn't sweep into power. Surely the dem leadership would embrace a leftist being nominated for, say, NY Mayor, right? Definitely not fearmonger and distance themselves.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
You don't think the dems did ANYTHING wrong this last cycle? And that accusation is WILD. As I said, guessing I've been voting and supporting d's since you were a twitch in daddy's pants. I WANT the party to be better than it is, and that makes me a repub? God forbid we question our betters, I guess
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Yo, moron - I've voted for dems longer than I expect you've been around. I've donated, did phones and door knocked - all for dems. But sure. *I'm* the problem. Guess we should just let leadership do fuck all and 'Vote Blue no matter who' rather than expecting my party to, idk, represent me?
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Dem leadership is too busy paying consultants to tell them to move right, telling each other how wonderful they are, and blaming VOTERS to work on... much of anything.

Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
That whole 'run for office yourself' schtick is wildly disingenuous. Most people do not have 'politician' skills. Being served shit when you order food, then pointing it out doesn't mean you should be a chef - maybe the food just sucks and the folks PAID TO DO THAT JOB should listen to customers
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
So the response to having bad politicians is NO COMPLAINING, but go ahead and just run for office. Not all of us have that kind of time/money. Thought they were supposed to represent us as their JOB. If they can't handle complaints and figure out the job, why the FUCK are they still there? (greed)
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
YOUR SURVIVAL SHOULD EXCITE YOU?!?!?! That's the big selling point? Get fucked. Spent my whole life hearing about how the dems were for the ordinary people, but the message is really, vote blue no matter who - you probably won't die right away! Touch grass. Go talk to real people.

Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Maybe you're looking in the wrong spots. I see it in my kids, and their peer group. I see it in protests and pride. I see it in the campaign volunteers for candidates they are excited for. It's there, but it is tough to get past a giant machine that runs on money.

And it's pretty hard to *prove*, but it sure holds up if you consider most of their actions in that way - please the donors and occasionally throw a sop to the base.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Look at how polling goes for universal healthcare! The people want it, but almost none of them really push it! Look at the cabinet confirmations - why are we letting these people breeze in? Look at the genocide issue - the party didn't embrace what the base wanted, and here we are!
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
And if you bothered to read that whole rant, thanks! Actually rather enjoy this discussion, and hope you've no ill will toward it, as I have none to you!
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
I WANT the dems to do well, and to adapt and change. I want them to be an actual left party. I want them to stand up for what they believe in, so we can actually get behind them. I'm tired of the old guard, same old messages, same old nothing. Lets get some youth and some energy out there.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
And this is not ALL - we have some young up-and-comers we'd like to see given more of a voice, but when the party leadership spends more to make one of their own look bad rather than stopping to consider WHY that person is doing well, then that just feels like entrenched fossils unwilling to adapt.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Biden did do some good things. Had he not insisted on attempting to run a second time (bit of a betrayal of his "transition" stance, I thought), we might be in a less bad place. The problem I have is that even when we do vote in Dems, they generally worry more about donors than constiuents.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
yes, thanks for bringing it up.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Never said I didn't vote. Voted left (usually dem) in every election I've been able to. Ppl should vote, obvi. However, it's gotta be easier to convince people of that if we had candidates and policies that would actually push for real change. It's unconscionable that we have these relics "leading"
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
"Ducky" "Cool beans" "Nifty"
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Like the leaders of the party should take responsibility for not working for the voters they demand vote for them. Look, I've voted in every election I've been eligible for, exclusively for candidates on the left, nearly exclusively for Dems. Can't say I've ever been super excited about any of them.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Then maybe we should focus on picking policies and candidates that voters will actually like, and not have to hold their noses to vote for.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Wow, you're SUPER GOOD at being condescending. Maybe if you used your brain for a moment you could understand a straightforward statement without being a dick.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Then put up a candidate that's worth getting behind on their OWN merits, not just cause Trump is a monster. GIVE ME SOME ***HINT*** THAT YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY MAKE CHANGE. But they won't take this lesson or any other, cause they've been in office for so long that reality is a distant memory.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
Yep, totally the fault of voters. No blame at the party leadership level for being less than worthless in driving engagement, or even pretending to care what actual voters want. THEY ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR VOTE AND YOU BETTER NOT WANT ANY CHANGE!
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
And of course, it doesn't matter if the party gives anything to be excited about, or that we actually care about. Vote for the old out of touch fucks or it's all the voters' fault.
Turbo sloth dork (@mthomsen.bsky.social) reply parent
What, exactly, do we have to unify over? Dem leadership is old, out of touch, and don't seem to give a fuck. Hard to unite under "vote for us or else, idiots" as a banner.
