It really is bonkers. I’m a cis/het woman, ostensibly among those most likely to become “breeders.” But I also work full-time, don’t make enough to even have a safety net, already spend ~50% of my income on rent (so where’s daycare or healthcare $ coming from?), & am a school shooting survivor. I’m also on the early edge of kids who lived through mass shootings at school (‘96, in my school’s case). It seemed unthinkable at the time, even though it was nowhere near the first. But we didn’t know to fear it. Can’t imagine being in the age group who grew up fearing it, and still wanting kids.
I truly cannot imagine wanting to have kids in our current moment. I’m the age when most of my peers who were going to, have. Pre-Trump and pre-Covid, friends with kids tried to convince me. Notably, they all stopped.
