I so feel this, used to contract as a trainer to a food company that paid their staff well above the living wage, had a fully stocked kitchen so they could freely eat breakfast, lunch and snacks there, incurring no expense and other great perks and they still complained bitterly about the company.

I know the factors are manifold but subsidizing laptops in schools might have gone some way to reduce today's truancy rates. Not having the right gear: stationery, uniform, lunch is a major contributor to kids staying away from school and idle teens will always find some way to expend their energy.
