Yet another banger from @docseuss.bsky.social. I highly recommend you read the first article first if you haven't, because I'm sequentialist and such beliefs are embedded in the core of my being. Also because it perfectly describes what games are missing. docseuss.medium.com/first-person...

Pritzker on Trump sending troops into cities: "He has other aims other than fighting crime... he would like to stop the elections in 2026 or frankly take control of those elections. He'll just claim there's some problem with an election and then he's got troops on the ground that can take control."

By law an enemy is ordinarily a foreign subject in some open hostility with the United States. There is no requirement for a formal declaration of war, though that does make the charge a lot easier to prove. For example, the AUMF functionally defined "enemies" without a formal declaration of war.

You don't need war for treason. It also includes "adhering to [the United States'] enemies" or "giving them aid and comfort." Conviction requires at least two witnesses to the same overt act or a confession in open court.

One of the most insightful things I've ever heard concerned gays and trans people in the military. A good friend who's an officer told me that if respecting gay and trans rights an order, it doesn't matter what troops personally believe, they'll comply. We need something similar. Make it law.

I know several people who listen to him with rapt attention. There's a reason he became popular enough that Ron Howard directed his memoir. I understand *you* don't see it but the appeal is not meant for you. Again, it's for people who care about style over substance and he knows how to bullshit.

Remember, this is also where we get Juneteenth. Texas celebrates the traitors at the Alamo, but there's also a deep connection with the immigrant experience. It's a study in contradictions. And it's bumbling along despite the oligarchy that runs it.

Meanwhile, consider a movie like Encanto or Frozen. Banger soundtracks, but weaker stories that don't quite have the same appeal. Encanto does a little too much, it gets scattered, while Frozen has distracting plot holes. They're hits but not in the way Toy Story was.

I sort of agree with you but I think the issue is focusing on appeal over the story they're trying to tell. I personally think the best movie Pixar has made in a long time is Luca because it's a simple story that has something to say. That's the core of all Pixar's bangers.

My shorthand explanation for why laws/regs can be so unwieldy is the "some asshole" theory of the law. If you ever wonder why there's a rule that you can't do something or things must be a certain way, it's almost always because some asshole did something and now we have to have a rule about it.

They'd have to deign to speak with MPD to learn of such dark magic.

Another day of carnage in crime-ridden Washington, DC.

The corner of 13th and I Streets NW, where the beautifully landscaped Franklin Park blooms.

The latest from @theaircurrent.com upcoming TAC/Intel feed as part of our new iOS app is the emergence of photos of the first wings for the C919-600, the shortened version of the Comac single aisle.

Signs of Comac’s development progress on the second member of the C919 single-aisle family have surfaced on Chinese social media. A photo of a set of wings for the C919-600, the shortened variant of the flagship single-aisle, was posted on Weibo by a prolific Chinese aerospace watcher and said to be the first major structural components for the new aircraft to have completed airworthiness inspection. The post dated Aug. 11 said the wings were shipped from AVIC Xifei Aircraft Co. at Xi’an’s secretive Yanliang Air Base to the CAAC’s Shanghai Certification Center. The -600’s outer wingboxes were identified as serial number 32, consistent with the production sequence of the C919 family to date. The shortened 160-seat C919 variant is being developed for high-altitude domestic operations in China to reach the country’s western airports on the Tibetan Plateau. First flight is expected in 2027 with entry into service the following year.

They're probably doing MPD's normal patrol for them. Trinidad was and still sort of is a higher crime neighborhood, though it's getting better. But as many have noted crime is down overall. And MPD can be very lazy. So if MPD can "direct" feds to walk their beat, especially in Trinidad, they will.

Palantir is in the news a lot lately. However, the public discourse about the company often misconstrues it as a data broker, a data miner, a single centralized database, etc. But what does Palantir actually do? I wrote a piece to firmly & clearly answer that question: www.wired.com/story/palant...

They're not saying it's unimpressive, but it is significantly less impressive than it's being made out to be. It's complex math. The why of the outputs are not well understood because it is a MASSIVE pain in the ass to backtrace all the tokens and vectors, not because it's unknowable.
