As a weapons expert I would point at the people who own the weapons. Other nations require weapon training and classes on storing weapons safely. Weapons are treated with respect and not like a water pistol. Getting a weapon requires psychological testing and police signing off. No school shootings.

An assault weapons ban is a bad idea that could increase black market sales and ghost gun production. A ban would get pushback & is unlikely to pass. Age restrictions & training requirements would do more to stop gun violence. My dog & AR-15 saved my life and I never had to shoot anyone.

A really good example is tribal ammo manufacturers. Tribes have invested 100s of Millions in ammo manufacturing and fought the feds every step. They are barely statistically significant producing millions of rounds. It’s the scale of US consumption is why a ban wouldn’t produce a black market.

Most gun owners don't do a mass shooting. Most are normies. Some are sportsmen who like to shoot an AR at the range. "NATIONWIDE BAN!" is just a call to arms against any gun safety legislation. We know the basic profile of these shooters. Go after them.
Standardized permits, mental health checks, and storage requirements at the federal level would go a long way. Those measures alone would almost completely eliminate accidental deaths involving firearms around chidren. It would reduce firearm related suicides, and mass shootings as well.

I am in agreement with all of your points except the last. There are still members of our society who live their lives in a cash based society. I am unsure how eliminating them from gun ownership makes us any safer as a society.
Most people have Venmo, Cash-App, Apple Pay, Samsung pay or even prepaid cards to purchase. Tax-credits for gun safe purchases would probably save enough lives to pay for themselves and ensure lower income would have them. The people I know that have the arsenals, paid cash at gun shows.
