It’s wild how much hate is built on a bad translation of an ancient book — a book full of contradictions that people still let rule their lives. Religion isn’t saving us. It’s hurting us. 🏳️🌈🔥

Religion - different people arguing that their invisible friend is the best.
Religion is a crutch for people. Some of the worst people are religious people and I don’t mean politicians or pastors. It’s not that difficult. Just be a good person and try and do the right thing.
Seen as a lower order Treated as second class Labeled as the 'weaker sex' Yet you still attend the mass Of a God that gave men the right To control and abuse When it comes to an abortion You don't have the right to choose Guilty In the Eyes of the Lord youtu.be/4umlQX4TFu8?...
It doesn't matter in 2025 if you know family and friends in christianity or judaism. They are in a CULT. Pure evil. Virgins don't give birth, donkeys don't talk and dudes don't walk on water. They are in a CULT.
It always has.
Sure is. But damn, it's certainly profitable!
Hate secured in "othering" is self-defense. Religion, religious practice/clothing, skin color, country, language, cuisine, football team's colors, favorite music, hair length. Seeing fellow humans as not "us" is tribalism. We become cairn terriers, yapping at imagined enemies at our camp's boarder.
Meant to instill fear and control over others.
The book I have read says a few important things: 1. Love the Lord 2. Love one another 3. Take care of the earth. It shouldn’t be that hard. ✌🏽💙
It also condones slavery, the subjugation of women & the murder of S2LGBTQI+ community members.
So why is it? Why are christians such hateful people? How do they justify weaponizing a religion that is supposed to be about love and acceptance and charity, and turn it into an agent for judgment, divisiveness, and hatred? How do they reconcile Jesus' teachings with their love of money and power?
The Bible is decisiveness and hate. Jesus is not the only thing in the Bible and he very specifically said the old laws remain which are vile
I’d have to argue that the hateful ones aren’t really Christians. The biggest “practicing” Christians are a bunch of bigoted scammers using the religion to get rich or sway voters
While I agree with you that leaders of christian churches, especially evangelicals have turned christianity into a mechanism for greed and profit-their followings are huge, so I assume it isn't just "some" christians. I don't know that I've met a real christian in years.
Started with the crusades. Then inquisitions. Colonialism. Slavery. Witch burning. Scientists arrested. KKK. Nazis. Yeah, all of a sudden Christians lost the plot….
I don't know that NRG has met a true Scotsman...
I don't subscribe to any organized religion as I don't feel any need for one. I believe that is the same for most of the participants in this thread. However, to not recognize that some people need the support of a religion is very myopic. We need to be more understanding, not critical.
I couldn't care less what any individual believes. When they use their personal beliefs to make laws and policies that affect others, then it is a problem. This is what happened in places like Iran. We've already had legislators trying to pass laws mandating church attendance. It will get worse.
Hard agree
"Person beliefs" or personal desires? There is a major difference between them.
Where did I say anything about personal desires? I personally desire cookies, I don't believe everyone should be forced to eat them because I want them.
My point. Your personal desire is everyone wouldn't be forced to eat them.
No. It's 2025. People need to stop believing in fairy stories before they can clearly focus on real life. They've had since the dawn of humanity to figure it out and I'm sick of mass delusion being the accepted norm.
Pretty sure you haven’t read it then. Did you miss the parts where Bible god commits and/or commands genocide? Like a lot? Or all the racism? Or the fact that he never condemns slavery and just gives rules about it? Or the blatant contradictions in it? I don’t expect you to change your mind even…
If you do read it, or from having the blatant nonsense of it explained to you, since most people dont change their view on that when facts are clearly presented anyway but still, at least acknowledge the whole thing
Right?!?
The book I have has a lot more than that. Did you know if you don't visit prisoners you are not a Christian?
Mostly made up stuff.
Also, a book that mere HUMANS decided what would go in it?! There are many more volumes of texts that didn't fit the narrative of the human beings putting the book together, that never made it in. #Gnostics for one set!
When people base their entire lives on events in a fake book, it's really all we can expect.
Star Wars is just as real.
Not all religions, but I get your point. There are too many toxic religions pulling the strings right now. Their mission? To conquer in the name of [fill in the blank].
It’s killing us.
Nothing new...it was the religious hypocrites in the 1st Century CE that demanded a Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate, the politician to murder the Masiyah Yahushua. Religion is false doctrine and murder on steroids.
👏
I believe that it is organized religion that has bastardized it. Fallen Catholic here. I saw 1st hand how an inaccurate rumor destroyed 2 men within my church. Rumors that were started by their own congregation members. But elected officials involved in immoral acts are serving on the altar Sundays
The MAGAt party is full of closet case KKKhristians...they hate themselves, ergo everyone falls into their hate list!
“An inaccurate rumor”. Yeah that’s a pretty good description of the bible.
religion is THE problem!
bsky.app/profile/garg...
Well, we know that book was written by men, some of whom may have had some wisdom and good ideas about how we can be better people, but mostly it was to keep folks in check.
In all fairness: the hate is mainly build on personal interpretations of that book. On cherry-picking quotes, indeed on bad translations, and on fear of having to share anything (no matter what) with others. And yes, religion is being exploited by institutions and money.
I bet most religious people didn't even bother reading it and instead just get their information about it from hearsay and social media lol
so true
Correction: it’s killing us.
It always has...especially women
Religion is man made& the root of all problems! It's caused more death & torture of innocent people than anything else, ever! That:"My god is better than your god",& "MY god is the ONLY god",nonsense,is such utter bullshit. If you believe there's a mountain, then accept there's more than one path up it!
It's mind-boggling that a belief in Bronze Age Middle Eastern goat herder mythology is the defining characteristic of so many people in our society. They call it "faith," as if that's excuse for believing nonsense.
I ponder this every single day. It’s a pretty “woke” book too. Especially the Jesus parts…
As Matt Dillahunty said, god is a mob boss, do what I say and I won’t torture you. Protection fee- 10% of everything you earn.
Organized Religion = Organized Crime!
Accept for the part where the guy founded Western Civilization 2025 years ago
Religion = Evil Ironic, isn't it? The very thing it professes to oppose is the THING.
Actually, if not ancient books, it would have been something else. We will never know the bible’s true intent because of the 1000’s of translations & the additions hateful men added. Evangelicalism has destroyed Christianity but not all religions are hurting us. Hate is what hurts us the most.
All the patriarchal religions use myths to control and dominate people for money. Once we understand that, we can become free.
Religion has been hurting men as long as civilization has existed.
Religion is mankind's salve for a gnawing sense of good and evil; an arbitrary wall, built without disernment, to claim we are on the good side and drive out those we say are not. But law also says we canot measure up to all named "good" despite our best efforts. Reconciliation comes by grace alone.
I dont think the problem is bad translation. The problem is about misinterpretation AND MOSTLY misguidance. Its not religion hurting us: its the false "religious people" doing that job. But it is just a point of view.
I think it's long past time to start combating this "Christianity" were seeing now. It's not based on the teachings of Christ anymore it's based on hate and exclusion. America needs to wake up and confront the issue head on. Christian Nationalism is a scourge on our society and needs to be abolished
Religion isn't the problem it's the weapon. It's humans' capacity for hate that's the problem. Religion is just the excuse, a way to channel the hate and to make someone an 'other' to destroy.
Religion is the problem!
If you took it away, they would just find another excuse to be violent and oppressive.
True. But look at societies with secular policies. Is there more or less violence?
The smartest thing the West ever did was separate Church and State. Clerics should never have guns, and certainly not tanks.
No it’s religion! The truth will set you free
No it’s religion. It’s justifies people’s hatred
Religion has always hurt us!!
That is the history of religion.
Blame goes 50-50 between the religious leaders and the sheep following them.
Not just a bad translation but an intentionally mistranslated one
Ironic that more people have murdered in the name of Christianity than any other religion on earth.
If the book didn't exist, power hungry people would find another mechanism to cause animosity. There are religious people who are bigots, but other religious people who are very compassionate and welcoming. Like Nuns on the Bus.
Cry yourself to sleep, crybaby.
Hate predicate on a terrible book. All the cool things we associate with it come from Catholic fanfiction like Dante's Inferno and the Divine Comedy. thebrickbible.com/legacy/revel...
A bad translation of an even worse translation.
Religion has killed more people than all the dideases in the world, yet they tell us they love us, but if we don't believe in their god, the one true one of course, why they'll just kill us till we do believe in him.
A translation by male monks!!
A book that isn't even a founding document but was created by committee hundreds of years after the "facts" mostly to consolidate power into the hands of the few.
Religion is fake. All about control of the faithful deluded
Still, you’ll never convince a large segment of the world of this. Ever. The cult is strong.
Religion is a blight on humanity.
Religion is a blight.
I heard it called an Iron Age book the other day. Perspective matters.
And why this so called god character opted to give these “sacred writings” to a bunch of Bronze Age morons is anyone’s guess. This entity could have given them to a much more advanced civilizations, but nah, let’s give it to one of the most ignorant, civilizations ever. Makes total sense🤡
It does when you factor in that an advanced society and religion were completely incompatible. Imagine being an early astronomer and confirming that the earth is not the centre of the galaxy but being afraid to disseminate your findings because you fear the church.. and then they kill you ..
and its all poorly translated nonsense. all of it
Religion rots the brain.
No. Not true. Blind faith rots the brain.
Which is what most of these religions expect. So yes religion rots the brain.
Ironically you just disproved your own argument.
I am a man of faith. I am also an atheist. My religion does not require me to uphold a dogma, or subscribe blindly to an ancient text, or to go out and kill people. And I have disdain for those who lump together all religions when what they really mean is dogmatic Christianity.
What's the difference between faith and blind faith? Thevery definition of religion includes blind faith, in my book.
What a bleak world you must live in. “Confidence or trust in a person or thing” is only one definition. You must have faith that your car will start in the morning. Is that ‘blind faith?’
Faith in the context of the supernatural is what I was referring to.
Ahh here we have a smartarse. The ‘faith’ you’ve been jerking off to is ‘Religious’ faith. Because you can’t defend it, you’re deflecting by reaching for an entirely separate usage of the same work. Arse.
You sir are the ass. Because of your own narrow minded views and definitions.
The narrow minded fool is the one who defends blind faith.
Exactly where did I defend blind faith? I actually decried it.
That is not faith. That is believing something that is backed by evidence which is not faith. Faith is the excuse people give when they don’t have a good reason to believe something or that which is not backed by evidence.
First definition in the Oxford English Dictionary: “reliance or trust.” Yup. Having faith that your car will start is exactly the definition. And yes, it’s based on the evidence that it has started every morning so far, but doesn’t mean it will start tomorrow. Ergo, faith can be fact based.
No that’s not it.
lol no
Seems like the kind of guy who would say believing you'll take a shit at some point during the day is faith 😅🤣😂
Excellent!
Faith is informed by reason and observation. Blind faith is not. Armchair philosophers once thought blind reason could deduce all truths. Science emerged from the idea of reason informed by observation. Spiritual philosophies holding that science and religion must be in agreement do exist.
You’re assuming responses refer to Christianity. Why. Personally- as an atheist - I think ALL religions are shite, and people who follow them are shitheads. I suspect I’m not alone.
Um perhaps you missed the post where I stated that I am a man of faith, and I am an atheist. Your conflating faith and “shite” is flawed logic.
You described yourself as an atheist and then mentioned your religion. You're very confused about atheism.
The Oxford definition is accurate. Atheism is about not believing in a god/goddess. NOTHING in that definition says anything about religion. I reiterate, there are a number of religions that do not require a belief in a god. You would do well to learn about them.
Not a Religion: It is crucial to understand that atheism is not a religion; it is a philosophical stance on a fundamental aspect of existence.
I never said atheism was a religion. You are trying to put words into my mouth. Oxford’s second definition reads: “a particular system of faith and worship.” The online amerikan dictionary lists eight definitions of the word, yet makes NO mention of god.
No I’m not. I can have a religion AND be an atheist. There are a number of religions that are inclusive of atheism. Your view is an expression of the blind faith I disdain.
Dictionary Definitions from Oxford Languages re·li·gion /rəˈlij(ə)n/ noun the belief in and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or gods. Perhaps you just need to learn the definition of a religion?
And the meaning of a-theism
Dictionary Definitions from Oxford Languages · a·the·ism noun disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods. Atheism is the antithesis of religion. You are a very confused individual. But you do you.
Atheism is NOT the antithesis of religion. It’s simply not accepting belief in a deity. It’s not a system of belief, or an organization of any kind. For the third and final time: THERE ARE A NUMBER OF RELIGIONS THAT DO NOT REQUIRE BELIEF IN A DEITY. Your inability to understand this is your problem.
This is an example of non-theistic religion thesatanictemple.com/pages/about-us Freedom of religion (where it exists) covers also this sort of case. People have a right to define their beliefs regardless of someone elses narrow definition. Unless all religion is covered and protected, none are.
More shite out of the same arse.
You are not worth any more of my time. You claim to be woke but are as intolerant as any trumper. Now that’s confusion!
RELIGION KILLS
I look forward to the day when people no longer use religion as an excuse to treat fellow humans as social outcasts or as inferior in dignity and worth.
Not in our great grandchildren's lifetimes I'm afraid.
Religion is used to control the masses. It's an old game.
If we didn't have that book, do you really think people would not find another reason to hate each other?
Organized hate is much preferable.
Actually always has it goes back centuries the crusades
Interpretation not translation. The words I read are not interpreted into the same ideological context
What's alarming is when young ppl tell me, Oh, yeah I've read Mein Kampf it is a good book, I really enjoyed it! There seem to be cycles in the proliferation of horrible ideas. & we are in a resurgence of one. Remember when kids were eating Tide Pods? Same group of impressionable idiots.
The idea that every single scientist working in biology, physics, psychology, medicine are all working to deceive the masses… but a 34 convicted felon, liar, and con man is trusted… make it make sense
All religion is bs and should be ended
Absolutely 💯
The Bible is a collection of “Books.” Christians trying to be Torah abiding Jews causes much anxiety , not the Acts of the Apostles..
And of all the ancient books, srsly, why THAT one
Being an atheist it’s so much easier to be a good person for the sake of being a good person with no ulterior motive.
Absolutely
Ahhh. . and atheistic Communism with well over 100 million killed is a better option?
If the Lord commands it, is it okay to kill people? For example, Numbers 31:1-18, where the Lord commanded Moses and the Israelites to kill every man, woman, and child of a feuding tribe (but to leave the virgin women alive to keep for themselves)?
Have NO idea what you are babbling about. You may want to add some context in future posts.
If the Lord commanded you to kill somebody (which he does frequently in the Hebrew Bible) would you do it?
Communists have killed over 100 million. Since they are atheists, it certainly wasn’t God telling them to do it.
You have a chance to prove that you're a better person than those damn godless communists. If God commanded you to commit a mass murder just as he commanded the Israelites, would you do it?
Just a gotcha question and I refuse to play your game. Bye.
This is only a "gotcha" question because I actually gotcha lol For any normal and well-adjusted person, whether they're religious or not, that's an incredibly easy question to answer. But you would totally kill people if only God told you to! You're in a cult
Once again just like an idiot leftist you’ve made an assumption about how I would answer. But, the left is the true cult with no original thought. Sad.
I did make an assumption. I think it's a pretty accurate assumption, because it's really easy to prove me wrong. "If the Lord commanded me to kill a group of people because they are sinful, I would refuse His command." If you made a comment like that, I would lose this argument.
Books fault right? Scribes of that time had help and outside input. Perhaps it's racism hurting us. Perhaps it's a usa enchanted with duality and how to go about painting bad guys for gullible suckers who view media then attend Yankee games to wield pride n prejudice.
I bet you still believe 911 was a terrorist attack. Similac child
Religion is a cancer on society
All things can be used for good and bad. Please don't group all religions together. It's like me saying trickle-down economics keeps people poor, so economics isn't saving us. It's hurting us. There are many theories of economics.
Perhaps, but as Steven Weinberg said... “With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion.”
No, any extreme ideology does that, secular or religious.
I heard that it was a printing error that is making a hate. It was done in 1947, too many copies were printed so they left the wrong translation. It was supposed to say man and child, but they translated to man and man. Imagine if we put all that hate for lqbtq+ unto the pedophiles where it belongs
Which is a good reason people shouldn’t believe it
Amazing how much of it, when diluted, was able to get mass appeal because it absolved more responsibility from the faithful. Modern Christianity by and large allows their followers to justify any petty, personal, EVIL desire as long as the can pull a random page from their favorite book.—
— Because as long as they believe Jesus was “a real boy all along” AND divine, they’ll go to heaven no matter what. Because if you do that ABSOLUTE BARE MINIMUM, “Then you MUST be a good person!😇” Yeah, no, thats not how that shit works.😑 In fact, you go to hell for daring to shove —
— words in God’s mouth by acting like he approves of your bullshit. (2nd commandment) “God hates fags, he loves Trump, which is why he’s fine with me raping this child too!” God: “WTF I NEVER SAID ANY OF THAT SHIT YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE.”
It’s the fake news of 2000 years ago
In Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” the Dear Lady we all know personifies a knowing path. youtu.be/qnpZCB9BUIw She picks 1) Foo Fighters “Everlong” 2) Oasis “Wonderwall” 3) Tool “Pneuma” 4) docs.google.com/document/d/1... 5) Collective Soul “Shine” 6) RHCP “Snow” 7) “Battle Hymn/Republic”
Religion will be the death of us, if you can fool people into thinking that a guy in the sky gives a damn about you if you send him lots of money, it’s the ultimate con.
And that guy in the sky does nothing when someone embezzles a large sum of money, but does watch and condemn you when you masturbate.
It's not just that, he's going to mercilessly burn and torture you for eternity if you don't
Yep. It’s a protection racket.
Those who understand the mathematical concept of infinity recognize that eternal damnation amounts to your actual life on Earth lasting quite literally for zero time comparatively. It's literally the most extreme punishment imaginable... just for believing in the wrong deity! It's absurd on its face
That's ok, he'll do it for simply being skeptical about any deity, and believers will yell you that's just how it is, it's his "perfect justice", "God's ways are not our ways", etc. etc. They are sick deluded motorscooters
That's not religion.
To modern worshippers, it is. Btw, it has been like this for well over a thousand years.
Point thoroughly missed.
If you can convince people that the fate they suffer is their own fault and due to misdeeds they weren't even aware of, you can rule over them for millennia.
About time someone woke up
A con that is as old as time.
The Abrahamic mythologies have taught “other” concerning humanity. There is no other. Only human beings. This is the great lie.
There’s also so much concern for other humans who aren’t our children.
It's destroying us. The word is "destroying".
It hurt women they called witches. Does that matter to them? No.
Yes, blame the books, not the people. Just like how video games cause violence... 😐
"The problem of disbelieving in God is not that a man ends up believing nothing. Alas, it is much worse. He ends up believing anything." G.K. Chesterton
A friend of mine did a tour of South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe after he finished his MBA. This was in the 80s, at the height of the AIDS crisis. People were literally dying in the streets. Governments did nothing to help them. You know who DID help them?
Churches, a lot of them Catholic. I'm not Catholic, neither is my friend (he's Jewish), but this is a little reminder that there's a place for a lot of beliefs in this world.
Here's another quote by Chesterton: God is like the sun; you cannot look at it, but without it, you cannot look at anything else.
Sounds good, except god is actually nothing like the sun, since it turns out out you can see everything without it.
Isn’t lying a sin? The pope said condoms were more harmful than AIDS. Made it worse. www.thetimes.com/travel/desti...
I shared a story about what happened in the early 80s and you post an article dated in 2009. The policies of JP2 during the AIDS crisis and the religious demographics in Africa at the time would be more relevant.
Although you'd still be stuck in bookkeeping reasoning, where you net a positive against a negative, regardless of whether they're equivalent.
What’s the pope know about Catholic thinking anyway? That church changes so rapidly it’s hard to keep up with.
I prefer my own choice of ventriloquist dolls parroting ancient human wisdom, thanks.
A man who believed in a fictional being for no other reason that his parents happened to believe in it lectures others about what they will or will not believe.
I’m here to tell you that is not true.
It's time we imposed sensible restrictions on religion. Starting with the same ones that apply to every other form of entertainment.
The constitution already has restrictions called separation of church and state. This corrupt Supreme Court is taking cases and will make decisions to blurr or entirely eradicate this. They have to b stopped. I just don't know how unless the right sort of opposition party gets into power.
Time to finally ban it, especially Christianity. Once and for all
"Entertainment", full of Disney villains and a mix of enticing drama and fun! Great analogy!
It is still surprising to me that so many people cling to superstitious nonsense, including using it to justify harm. Religion is dangerous because it touts itself as a higher cause for which it is justifiable to commit terrible acts.
And it not real.
Science isn't saving us, it's killing us. Both can be used for good or bad, just like anything else. Why create false dichotomies just because your confirmation bias doesn't like religion?
The single most evil thing that the human race has spawned is religion. Especially the Ibrahimic variety, Jewish, Christian, Islam. All from the same root, all as bad as the others. So which came first in the trilogy? I'll be condemned for observing that mad Moses started it. I care? Fuck Israel.
Judaism and modern-day Israel are not the same. The horrors of Gaza are not driven by religion, but by the same bigotry and greed infecting the U.S. Netanyahu and Trump are both pandering to the extremists to maintain the thin majority that keeps them in power. Religion is just the excuse.
Agreed. Religion has always been used as an 'excuse' for inhumanity. What troubles me most is that the extreme 'zionists' seem to believe that their 'god' gave them the lands of Palestine. If they loved it so much, why did they fuck off on their diaspora in the first place? Fucking hateful bastards.
I'm going to stay out of the comment section. I know there's going to be a bunch of people who are going to go, "Yeah, but.." and there is no yeah, but. Not until they condemn those who use that book (and various incarnations) as it means to commit violent acts against others.
Also scary that there people who would do terrible things to one another if not for said ancient book. And even scarier that people who claim to folkow the same book still do terrible things...
Completely Agree.
#FakeChristians are ##ChristoFascists and they are hurting many, many people.
Books-it's plural. All religion is stupid, superstitious nonsense written by very ignorant people who had terrible ideas and observations.
A book that was compiled by a ruler decades/centuries after it was drafted to preserve power.
Believing that one is faithful to the Scriptures is an illusion. It`s not possible to claim that one only relates to what is written, everyone relates to their reading of what is written. Cruel abuses in the name of faithfulness to Scriptures by any religion makes their god a god with very little g
I'm an atheist and love is my religion.
All religions are cults pure and simple built on bad translation and lies or exaggerations ask people how they obtain their religious beliefs and how their religion compares to other religions and listen to their answers it’s amazing
I have said that for over 50 years, reading the bible cover to cover, no exceptions, opens your eyes to what it really is, and what it is not. And it is not holy in any real sense of the word, as bits of love are followed by intense evil.
Many people claim that reading the entirety of the bible resulted in their atheism.
Dawkins says something like "Have you read the bible? God is a sociopath!"
I say, if god exists, IT’s the ultimate asshole, but sociopath is more correct.
Let’s not forget the part in the Bible convinced a man to kill his son and then says “JK” at the end before the murder. WTF?!?!
Maybe. But I have only read the New Testament, and that was hard enough. I doubt most people would read the complete Bible. Reading only the New Testament is enough to make anyone an Atheist.
I haven’t read the whole bible. The first contradictions I came across frustrated me enough to make me ditch the whole thing. I do watch The Line on YouTube regularly though. That’s an eye opener.
The Bible never claimed to be holy, though. It‘s a reflection of historical values and ideas. There are some fundamental rules in it that are important in basically every religion or human community - except maybe the Romans, they were assholes.
If god exists, IT’s the biggest asshole to have ever existed.
Agreed
That’s just nonsense. Sheesh christians are dumb.
I’m not Christian but I like your differentiated take. I didn’t defend Christians or the stories in the Bible. It’s a historical document of ancient philosophy and storytelling, not a history book. The Bible copied much from the Thora and both copied from the Epic of Gilgamesh
Try telling Evangelical Christians the Bible isn’t a history book. You probably already know this, but these are the same people who think the world is 6,000 years old & humans and dinosaurs existed at the same time. They’re running a large portion of the US government & judiciary. (Woo woo) 🦕🦖
Evangelical Christians also think that the USA is a Christian country and that Catholics - the religion they hail from - are not real Christians. They are wrong on basically everything, so I don’t give a damn what they think. They’re fundamental idiots. So are Mormons and Southern Baptists
Seriously, U.S. Americans created the worst possible sects of Christians world wide. Catholics are beacons of tolerance in comparison
Fundamental rules in it important in every human community? Most human communities existed before it existed, and after it existed, most lived a long time just fine without it. It didn’t help anything. Also, if I remember right, the Bible outright claims to be the word of god so it claims to be holy
No, the Bible doesn’t start with „this is the word of God“. Sometimes, it says, this passage is the word of God but not as a whole. No, you don’t need the Bible to follow fundamental rules. But modern societies write them down somehow
And even if the rules existed in most, that’s literally just proof that the book isn’t necessary or helpful???
It’s helpful in a way that it gave rules and guidance to a specific group. All historic societies of a certain size did so through spiritual believes. Many do so through a constitution nowadays. But the majority in the world still has the spiritual approach
It’s fiction. Just like god.
Have you read it?! Not all stories are about God and many have a proven historical background. The stories can be found in various sources. You don’t need to be religious to scientifically research the Bible - which is done in different fields.
Stories written by men declaring the existence of a deity don’t prove there’s a deity. Once again - a comic doesn’t prove the existence of Batman.
Ok, I didn’t write that, so I have no idea what you’re answering to. My comment was about something else entirely, so I guess, you got the wrong threat
Yeah… didn’t say they’re cool… In this case, it could also be the wet dream of one creepy author. Like ancient porn.
Not a Christian, but have read the New Testament (which most Christians haven't). I can say that Christians pick only those parts that they want to believe in. They conveniently ignore the rest.
Then you don't understand true religion. People who use religion to hurt others aren't doing it right. Religion isn't inherently bad, it's just another thing some have twisted in order to gain power and hurt others.
This is why I find the study of ancient Christianity so fascinating. The West has manipulated and misinterpreted the Bible to the point it's almost unrecognizable. Also there's texts that most Christians won't even acknowledge because it might make their beliefs look bad.
In Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” the Dear Lady we all know personifies a knowing path. youtu.be/qnpZCB9BUIw She picks 1) Foo Fighters “Everlong” 2) Oasis “Wonderwall” 3) Tool “Pneuma” 4) docs.google.com/document/d/1... 5) Collective Soul “Shine” 6) RHCP “Snow” 7) “Battle Hymn/Republic”
All the good people do under the auspices of religion they would most likely have done anyways...it is human nature to be cooperative and collaborative. Much of the bad done goes against that nature...and is under the direction of religious dogma.
And as we know, it wasn’t even an ancient “book” per se. More like an anthology of various translations of different things stitched together. Not to mention Old Testament and New Testament.
fascism will use whatever vehicle it can
Don’t get me started Literacy rate at the time of the writing was 5 to 8% which means it was the elite And the elite were the scribes, and the religious figures who had something to lose So they edited the book to their means and ends It’s just a series of writings It is definitely not truth
Imagine the world today if Johannes Gutenberg had not chosen the already aborted, edited, amended and embellished Christian bible as his major publication.

Religion & democracy do not mix. Religion is absolutist. Democracy demands compromise & tolerance of opposing views. Religious notions can be stretched & manipulated to promote anything, including dictators. Democracy depends on the clarity & consistency of a constitutional framework.
The KJV has more than 430 mistranslations and added political bits ! Scholars have flagged thus for a ling time, yet its still being read as truth
I refer to the Bible as "a badly-edited third-century folk anthology."
It always has IMO.
Its not religion or spiritual in any way shape or form. Its just power and control. It was commisioned by roman emperor Contstantine in 325 AD to control the masses. Main thing is not to let the population get too educated, then you can control them through religion. Jesus has nothing to do with it.
It was never meant to save us. It was meant to control us.
What kind of loving father goes to each of his children and says, "you're my favorite and if you destroy those other two I'll give you everything."? Only a trickster god. The reality is for thousands of years humans have been playing an ever more deadly game of Daddy loves me best.
Hear me out. Maybe it’s the mental 1% that lack morals screaming religion is bad that’s hurting us. What’s the issue with following a guide for good morals and way of life? Societal norms of OF and child predators? I’ll pass. You can keep it.
Because it isn’t a guide for good morals. Bible god is explicitly evil. He commands several genocides, commits at least one genocide personally, and tortures Job just to prove a point and win a bet with the devil. Plus explicitly tells a child that she’s gonna have his kid, which is disgusting
IMO Always has, history is full of horrific periods where controlling the masses meant controlling the wealth and power. Organized religion accomplishes just that, keeps people obedient and without accountability for their actions. Begs; What if people truly believed in each other?
You were lied to.
Religion is the root of all evil.
I agree (borrows DJT's math) 1400, 1500% Nobody's ever seen agreement like this.
A book where snakes talk, men live 900 years, floods cover the world, and corpses walk—yet millions treat it as the ultimate wisdom. Ancient fairy tales with a fan club. Brilliant. It’s astonishing adults in this day and age of scientific brilliance still believe the nonsense the Bible contains.
It’s will be interesting to see how Xian churches, many of which belong to denominations that preach intolerance and bigotry, deal with empty pews when they’ve alienated the world’s more enlightened residents. Also, what will happen to religion when we find out we are not alone in the universe?
Anybody can take a book or scroll and put numbers beside sentences, add a god, add common sense things in it to make it sound right and call it a holy book. Besides someone plagiarized older pagan ideas. It would have been easier to write sun worship on the front and call it good though lol
Religion has always sucked
Many forget that Europe actually was a diverse indigenous cultural and religious place before the genocidal "christening" of Europe.
You just realised this?
And nobody agrees from church to church on what those scriptures mean that's how new churches come about
The parts where Jehovah sent his "people" out to slaughter their neighbors came through pretty clearly though Clearly enough to be driving genocide in Gaza right now
Killing us is more accurate and consistent with history.
Big book of Fiction
More lives have been lost in the name of religion than all wars combined.
💯
i mean, how else could you find inexistent proscriptions for masturbation, but clear instructions of lashing merchants and the need of fair wages?
The Bible was the worst thing to ever happen to mankind. I stand by that
The Bible is full of Symbolism designed to teach. Everybody needs to decide if it was Spiritually guided🦋
Saw a BBC news story this AM about Syrians running around asking folks who they worshipped. A "wrong answer" got folks shot. Someone please explain to me what religion is worth dying for? Religion should show a way to celebrate life, not condemn it.
The book is the root of all of it. What Jesus supposedly taught was unitive. Just look at the Protestant side of the church, the side with the book in the hands of the people, in spite of the priests. Division upon division. Denomination upon denomination. Schism upon schism. Splintering still.
All over words in a book, at the expense of love in the heart. Evil is as evil does. Here…eat this human flesh and drink this human blood to celebrate the murder of the one you feast upon. Call this “love”. Nothing evil about any of that. No. Not at all.
It’s a con game. “Religion isn’t saving us. It’s hurting us.”
While true, you are displaying a religious flag in your comment about how harmful religions are.
The keyword is “Bad translation”: Watch Shakespeare fans cringe if you say “Wherefore art thou, Romeo?” [sic], and you have some idea why Lutheran smartypantses have a need to publicly pants Atheists AND Fundamentalists who think they’ve figured out Genesis and Revelations. 🙄😖
Religion is responsible for more death and torture than anything else.
Most people don’t read history but cursory glance of the early Byzantine period would open an awful lot of peoples eyes about the New Testament and the level of utter nonsense of those books chosen to reflect Christianity
That's why the spirituality of the Bible is more essential than any religion!! You don't have to associate with a particular religion to live by spiritual guidelines!!
Almost always
For modern readers the place to start is not really with the Bible as it will be largely misunderstood without context. Better to consider first whether things like the fine-tuning of the universe for life; that an apparently random universe supports morals;
that many have near-death experiences or profound healing in proximity to prayer, point to the existence of a God in the first place. The details can come afterwards.
The greatest "story" ever told.
“Wisdom” from the Bronze Age that protects the wealthy from the coveteous masses.
Hateful people using their religions to justify their hatred is hurting us.
With the caveat that this includes any and all religious texts, I could not agree more.
Spoiler: it was never about religion or the 📖
Always has, always will.
zionists think it is a land title to people who are not from the region.
"Religions are systematized anxiety, and do little but harm." Axel Sandemose father of the jante law
Beliefs in God has killed more people than the plague!
Far more. And we can cure the plague now. Religion, unfortunately, not so much.
Luckily people are at least trying
One of the Ten Commandments 9 “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.” Exodus 20:16 This one is about honesty. If you lie to someone, you are “bearing false witness,” and may cause harm to yourself and to others.
Real Christians are good for everyone. Fake Christians are an abomination.
The problem is that The Book of Joshua is the dominant theme.
No , people are hurting us. They always pass the buck to God. But The Bible is just a resource to dig into. You can draw good out of it or bad. The majority of Christian Churches seek control so guess what they draw out of it?
Amen my human brother! Amen!!
its not the book its the false 'prophets, teachers and leaders' committed to twisting it towards their own malevolent ends
5) Collective Soul “Shine” 6) RHCP “Snow” 7) “Battle Hymn/Republic”
v nice list
I highly recommend the movie The Kingdom of Heaven (MUST be the director's cut) for both a brilliant epic and some excellent social commentary on religion. I rewatch it every now and again for inspiration. ;)
Or The Life of Brian.
It’s fiction. You’d think after a couple thousand years there would be at least one iota of evidence. It’s an okay story but the ending sucks.
I'd have less of a problem if it was ALL taken as read, but the real hypocrisy is picking and choosing the bits you like and omitting the bits you don't. If you're going to a be violent, authoritarian racist, at least have some consistency in your stance. It makes it easier to clown on you
The sole reason for organized religion is to control the masses.
There are groups currently asking for a new Constitution when what's really needed is a new bible.
Also the Old Testament is not a Christian text-it was highlighted by convert St Augustin trying to create a religion in the 4th C….
A great book to read : God is Disappointed in You by Mark Russell. He explains how absurd the Bible is in a funny and entertaining way. He also covers the apocryphal texts in a sequel book.
As always 🙏🏼🌎 ☮️ and fuck evangelical non Christian/satin’s soldiers 🤡👎🏼☠️
If you equate "woke" with a virus, you're infected with something evil...Worship Pedofotus!
Of course it's not a biological virus, rather like software virus. Liberal used to be "Live and let live" (me). Woke is more like "I know everything, do as I say or you are racist/sexists/homophobic/etc." then screaming, then antifa attacks. It has to be evil that makes people do that. What else?
We disagree a bit...Woke means inclusion and empathy!
I wish it was just that and did not include spiting on people, uncontrolled screaming, violent outbursts, and all kinds of anti-social stuff. Before the woke, it was the Liberal that was cool. You could party with them. Woke, no way, they are a crazy bunch. Very disrespectful to each other, others.
The abuse of religion by those that try to use it to manipulate others is so very destructive.
a book compiled by bronze age goat herders, and hundreds others over centuries. time to leave it behind
The so-called "book" is just a tool, like a hammer. If you miss hitting the nail with your hammer and you hit your hand, it's not the hammer's fault. It's the interpretation of the "book" that is at fault. Sometimes the fault is not in the stars but in ourselves. Just an opinion.
Whenever I start thinking humankind is some uber intelligent species, I just remember how many of us still desperately cling to Bronze Age fairy tales to govern their lives. It’s embarrassing, honestly
Sadly, the message of the New Testament is love, forgiveness & support one another, is being ignored. They are Christo-fascists.
In some cultures illiteracy enables the literate to bullshit the illiterate; tell ‘em what YOU want them to believe.
My point was that people following JCs message wouldn't do that. Hell, I'm an atheist & can see the harm caused.
It isn't religion that is the problem so much as it is certain people USING IT for their own vested interests. White MAGA evangelicals are a perfect example. They contradict almost all of Christ's teachings and cherry pick verses, ignore others, yet pretend they are devout "Christians". Not.
It’s even more insane that racist Christians worship a Palestinian God.
One more time: Psalm 154: The Lord is good to all & his tender mercies are on all his works. You all really need to stop trying blame religion for people’s shitty behavior. A lot of us have read the same book & don’t act like that. You’re welcome.
Bible god also commands genocide several times and commits genocide at least once. There is no sane interpretation in which Bible god isn’t evil
Tyrants always find it useful.
Organized religion is simply about control. Faith and spirituality have NOTHING to do with it.
That’s the book that should be withheld from libraries and schools
☠️👍 ABSOFUKKINLUTELY! 'religion' is Dangerous and Poisons EVERYTHING FFS! TAX ALL CHURCHES NOW!
So many wars foisted on people by their religious "beliefs" that served so many rulers, in collecting wealth and power. The founding fathers (in spite of their many flaws) got this one right. Believe what you want, but keep that to yourself, and keep it out of government.
People conflate faith & religion. To have faith is a great thing. Being “religious” typically means having hypocritical beliefs & no empathy for your fellow man.
