You're taking this the wrong way. The surgeon delivered your wife! Sue for malpractice. (actually, it's common for insurance to create a what's called a mom/baby claim by duplicating the mother's claim to a new baby ID, and THEN denying the mother's original. )

i had a similarly ridiculous conversation because my son and husband have the same name - when my husband needed emergency gallbladder removal, they registered him at the hospital as our son who was born there. insurance company told me they can’t approve gallbladder surgery on a 4 y.o.😑

We had a similar situation. Our 1st was born after we moved to a new state and we were young so we didn’t understand how it all worked. Applied for Medicaid after his birth. 2nd came 17 months later. We were denied because the state only saw the app date and fraud alerts denied the 2nd baby

One of my major issues: how much time we are all wasting. Insurers should be required to have the conversations by email so people have a record of what they were told.

Yessss, and hospitals and insurers should talk to each other to resolve these issues. They both cause issues that average people don't even understand but are charged for. I spent so many hours calling back and forth to figure out what happened and how to fix it and who could fix it. Maddening.

Why use money on healthcare when you can use it on administration? assets.kingsfund.org.uk/f/256914/x/7...

The money spent on healthcare ends up in the US way less in treatment than in other countries illustrated by a graph showing the US leading 8.9% share of total health spending ends up as administrative spending. While Finland uses 0.8%, Sweden 1.7% and UK 1.9%.

They have to. I mean, it wouldn't be a typo from a nurse. You wouldn't write 1984 instead of 2024. They probably know that if insurance denies claims over this, they'll get more pay directly from the patient. I wonder how many other people have gone through this

Hey Jenna @heyjenna.bsky.social

It might be easier to resolve thru hospital starting with medical records and having them change the birthdate and then asking the hospital collections to re-file the claim.
