I'm a psychiatric nurse working with homeless and mentally ill people. Three decades working in community health. I help people recover their lives and reconnect with family and society. I know where to find resources for people in need, which includes offering food, drinks and emergency housing.

Look at the number of units per year - we have never gotten back to the level of 2008 and we build like a tenth of what we built in the 1940s

Notice anything about those states? 1. A lot of them have pretty ideal weather to be homeless in. 2. Those states largely have some of the best social services and resources in the country for the homeless.
States should be rated with climate in mind.

Before your task force starts to displace people from the only shelter that they have, make sure there will be a place for them to go. Also make sure that families stay together. And expedite social programs to help them out. And don't throw away what little possessions they have. Have compassion.

Let's be clear here. When you declare a task force to clear homeless encampments you mean a task force to throw away the meager possessions of Californians who don't have a permanent home. This is not a task force to find homes for Californians, but a task force to dehumanize the marginalize
It has social services advocates as part of the group this time. It's an opportunity to right some of the wrongs that have happened in the past.
Growing up in the bay area these encampments are horrible. Made of mostly trash, smell horrible, and bring all sorts of drug users around. This is seriously an issue that is affecting everyone's lives, not just these homeless and the solution isn't to do nothing.

Two things can be true at once. Encampments can have trash, and the few possessions people have left. And shelters can often prevent people from brining their possessions, and may shelters can be less safe than the streets. Which is why there are so many open shelter beds. Fix the shelters.
They are given multiple days warning when sweeps will occur. It's made clear they need to accept the services/shelter or take their possessions and move on. It's their choice. If they don't? 🤷♂️ They can't remain there and continue breaking the law.

Yes, I have been - not empty. This one was 3 blocks from my home before they finally cleaned it up. My dog has stepped on drug needles multiple times. My kid can't walk to school. Now maybe sit down and listen.

That’s Oakland 2019, & an encampment that had been there for over 3 years. The article that photo was pulled from explicitly states that many of the people living there simply moved a few blocks down and some refused the scarce housing offered because of limits on number of possessions allowed
