We'll see how the Utah SC handles the inevitable appeal. The state itself says they need maps by Nov 1st or people won't be able to file for office, and because it's a local constitutional issue and not national, the SCOTUS probably can't interfere, but no promises.

It's already been to the Utah SC and sent back to the judge in question. They can appeal on other grounds, and have said they will, but their argument they have a constitutional right to void initiatives regarding boundaries was found unconstitutional under Utah law. bsky.app/profile/sltr...

Cool. Ohio SC did the same. So did district courts. Ohio legislature just ignored the courts. And there is still SCOTUS. If Utah legislature refuses to undo their illegal change, who is going to hold them accountable? Are the courts going to jail them? No.

The Legislature bows to the courts more often than not. Every Utah SC member is Republican appointed, so they aren't dealing with elected members. One of the odd but good things about Utah, Mormons most often obey and respect the law. Of course, this took 4 years...

Again, Utah is not Ohio. They did something similar with the institution of primaries instead of only caucuses. The Republican Party fought it for years and bitch about it constantly, but we do both because they exhausted their appeals. This may not be safe, but it's already been 4 years.
