I can't speak for Zohran, but it's not uncommon for me to have students who aren't sure what to answer on those forms, especially if they come from a diaspora community in Africa or the Caribbean, or from the Middle East. I tell them, choose what makes the most sense to you.

Back when I applied to CU you couldn’t check more than one race/ethnicity box. I’m mixed and had always alternated which I checked on forms. I remember getting excited there was an “other” box so I chose it. The NYx could imply I got in because of that box rather than checking white or Asian.

No comments section on this one for people to talk about it. Funny how this works. I read the whole article. It’s sort of bizarre because it even mentions how Mamdani says that no one fits nicely into these boxes. It comes across as an aborted hit piece that they published anyway.
