Agreed. It’s a wonderful and beautifully written book. I know people who bounced off it at first and then came back later after reading the other books who now rightfully love it. Hell that’s my own story, though I bounced off for a different reason.

The main critique I hear is that it lacks strong (any) female characters. I have been able to get people to read Tombs after explaining that Le Guin herself has called this her biggest mistake and that the MC for the rest of the series* is a woman.
It’s a great book I love it. I’ve just heard so many people say it’s the one and only book they’ve read. Personally I started at the beginning but I also went in committed to keep reading at least 5 books.

The Bewitching. I wasn't disliking it or anything it was just very similar in theme and tone to a few books I just read. So I'm gonna put some distance between those books before giving it another go.

Same goes for Discworld. I know so many people who read Color of Magic and nope out, never knowing the greatness that was achieved. Or they read Small Gods because everyone recommends it for some reason when it’s not a great place to start. I feel SG only hits if you known Pratchett already.
It breaks my heart when people read Wizard of Earthsea and bounce off it and don’t read the rest of the series. For the modern reader I think Tombs of Atuan is where you should start.

I usually stay away from non-primary timeline Marvel and DC comics. (I was sick of the multiverse about 20 years before the Doctor Strange movie.) Anywho, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and try some of these "Absolute" DC titles. I hear Wonder Woman is particularly good.

Considering there are already talks of two sequels and a live action remake, Netflix calling it their "Frozen franchise" I'm going to go out on a limb and say that, no, no lessons have been learned and no lessons will ever be learned.

Hard to say. It’s one of the most blatant cases of wish fulfillment I’ve seen outside of current romantacy. Outside of that the pacing is wonky and the characters (especially the female characters) aren’t done justice. But there is 100+ pages where an immortal sex fairy is obsessed with him so…
I don't want to give spoilers. Just... be prepared to roll your eyes waaaaay back into your head a few times. Like when the Aes Sedai rip off their blouses eye roll. The MC (in addition to being good at everything) is male gazey. But it's OK because he's also a literal sex god his first time, so...

Like any art or skill, writing takes practice. Write and finish stories. Do prompts. Do exercises. Don’t hyperfixate on one aspect or one project and get stuck for years.
Imagine a guitarist complaining about not getting better. But then they refuse to learn chords or scales because “those things don’t work for me”. That’s a lot of writers who refuse to put in the work.
At this point people have to be intentionally obtuse about genre. Sure you CAN write a good story that doesn’t end happily. But that’s not what romance readers want to read. And it’s not a bad thing.
Also related (or maybe the same): Suspense is not generated by the reader not knowing what happens next. It's generated by the reader CARING what happens next.
The "art over artist" mindset is what enables and empowers these people. It needs to die. There is more great art created by truly good people than one individual can experience in a lifetime. Support them. Destroying those books frees one's self from them and ensures they won't do more harm.
Something that has really helped me as a novelist is thinking in terms of scenes. How many scenes does this chapter/section/act need? How long should my scenes be if I want to convey *this* tone? Planning each scene with a beginning, middle and end (liberal usages here). #WriteTheGoodWrite
