And don’t people who have transplants have to take a lot of specific anti-rejection medications? That sometimes have lots of unpleasant side effects? You can’t just swap out organs like car parts.
This why I generally enjoy being around teenagers. They are perpetually annoyed by everyone and everything, and honestly, they absolutely should be. So should we all.

I’ve heard that Memphis is next on the list, thanks to one of our horrid senators, Marsha Blackburn (who is also running for governor). So the city with a majority Black population and reliably blue congressional district in ruby red Tennessee, will probably be occupied pretty soon.
Thanks for sharing! I’ve been wanting to do more creative things. I have no natural talents for art, but for some reason I enjoy trying. Most of the time the results are very “well, at least you tried” but sometimes I surprise myself! Those rare moments are golden.

Oh, lord. As a kid who read all the time, the number of words that I knew the meaning of, but with no idea how to pronounce, must have numbered in the thousands. Even now, in my 50s, I probably still don’t know how to say some of them.
Agree. When my dad was dying from brain cancer, my mom relied heavily on Amazon. They live in a somewhat rural area and Mom could only leave the house when I was available to stay with my dad. Amazon shipments were a necessity for my father and her.

Yes. I feel extremely fortunate that I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to find the extra money even though it will mean spending less on other things and cutting some stuff out completely. Many people are already stretched to the max and simply don’t have anything else left to cut.

And most tipped workers rely on the ACA marketplace for their insurance, and that is about to go through the roof. I’m already trying to decide how to cut my spending to find the extra money. Millions of us are going to stop spending to pay for higher premiums. Doesn’t sound good for the economy.
I’m certain that I’m on the spectrum, but at 54, I see more downsides to a formal diagnosis than benefits. I’ve pretty much learned how to live with my issues.

I just finished The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles. I really liked it. It’s nearly 500 pages long so it isn’t a quick read. A friend said she thought it had too many side stories, but I found them to be very engrossing. I also liked that all the characters have turns in telling the story.
We’re all laughing, but NYC taxpayers are probably paying workmen’s compensation for his bruised ego.
Same reason they don’t think they should pay the wheel tax, but the rest of us better have in-date car tags.

It was very easy for me, but I'm sure the selfie thing isn't as easy or non-intrusive for young, youthful-looking people.
Yes. When I was vacationing in London, I opened the ap and it told me I had to confirm my age. It gave me the option of taking a selfie which I did since I knew I obviously appear older than whatever the required age is. The whole thing took less than 3 or 4 minutes.
Yes. I'm well into my 50s so obviously it worked fine for me, but I looked very young into my late 20s. I probably would have had similar problems as your friend. None of this is good.
At least the UK regulations are reasonably easy to meet without having to give out any sensitive data. I was in the UK a couple of weeks ago. To use BS, all I had to do was take a selfie through the app. I don’t know how well this would work for an 18 year old who looks younger than they are.

I am in Tennessee and get my insurance through the marketplace. Right now, BCBS is proposing a 42% increase. Hopefully, it won’t be more than that. I am lucky enough that I can juggle some stuff around, divert some “luxury” spending, and likely cover it. Lots of other people won’t be as lucky.

Exactly! I wasn’t exactly an overachiever, and yet I easily cleared the bar. And as this was an 8am MWF class, I was (and remain) eternally grateful for this professor. I have never been a morning person. I still cannot believe that people failed this man’s class.
And, just like your experience, about 35 percent of the class failed every single test. The guides he gave us were almost word for word the exams. All the answers could easily be found in the textbook. All you needed to get an A was basic reading comprehension and a decent memory.
When I was in college in the early 90s, I had a professor who on the first day of class gave us study guides for every single exam of the semester and the dates of each exam. He then said he didn’t care if we came to class or not, just be there on exam days. It was the easiest A I ever received.

I thought the 2024 election made the choice between fascism vs not fascism very clear and yet millions of people stayed home because they could not bring themselves to vote for a black woman. A candidate’s appearance has no influence at all on how I’d vote, but I think it does influence an alarming number of people. And overweight people get so much hate dumped on them just for existing, much less having the audacity to be successful and/or ambitious.
I like Pritzker a lot, and think he’d be a very good president. Unfortunately, I’m afraid he isn’t as electable as Newsom because of how horribly fat-phobic this country is, in spite of the fact that most of us are fat, too.
This is very true. Do I love Newson? Not at all. But right now he is one of the very few Democrats, along with Pritzker, who seems to not only understand what is happening but is also willing to fight back in the appropriate manner. He’s not the perfect fighter, but at least he’s fighting.
I have a deep aversion to local TV news, but now I am ON it because last year, the power company Arizona Public Service cut off electricity to my mother’s house outside of Phoenix, killing her.
